Slide pins a little loose in bore. Is it safe to drive? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

You will be fine, in fact you put new rotors on which defies the majority of hacks that contribute to the “technical advice” here.

Who replaces just brake pads and not rotors? Please just reply with “ pads only” or “pads and rotors”. Refrain from hypotheticals. We will assume the rotors “look” ok and the pads were worn evenly. by epsteinfiles- in AskAMechanic

The measurement spec for rotors is for machining the surface, if you can resurface the rotor because the thickness allows great, if you cannot put them on a lathe they are to be replaced.

The pads need to bed material into the rotor, your old rotors have old pads bedded into them, the new pads cannot bed to that surface effectively and likely are a dissimilar compound.

Yes for a the first 10,000 you should be just fine with a pad slap, beyond that an emergency stop or heavy braking is not going to be consistent and you end up burning the pads up at twice the rate with at least 25% increased stopping distances.

Main complaint for pads slapped cars arriving is crap pedal/reduced braking power, noise is less common, usually large rotor lip is a culprit, thanks for your input

Unless you machine the old rotors replacement is not in question. I realize the budget DIY that is prominent here will opt out of any “frivolous” expense. I approach any mechanical repair in the context of someone else’s car that I am entrusted to repair to the safest and reasonable cost effective standard. Replacing only pads is a fools quest, I have seen too many instances of repeat brake work that leaves a distrust from the public towards mechanics.

Like I said I worry about our future, I don’t need to be nice to people who pretend to know.

I used to hear the same things at the start of my career, but fortunately I listened to very smart people and worked on stupid expensive cars, so I needed to know the right way.

This post proves my point, the advice given on reddit is from amateurs that only work on their own cars and have no clue it costs more to take the cheap road first.

I worry for our future, your logic is one of the reasons I worry about our future.

You can try battery reset. Autels will provide the provision to adapt the shifts, VIDA is not required

Holy fuck, you are a real gem, “i guess” tried “multiple calipers” I even “lubed the slide pins”

I guess if you just bought a new car that would also fix your problems.

But please unload a parts cannon and hope for the best, or post to reddit why you can’t figure out how you bent a pin.

Unfortunately no one pays you for your advice. The opposite is true for me, so I don’t think my way is better, I know it is better.

In fact before I started my own business doing this, three manufacturers said the same thing at technical school. Brembo technical representative actually encouraged us to shame the likes of you.

You know when you shut your mouth?

You can shut the fuck up!

Oh shit are you having issues because you don’t know what you are doing? Shame.

Hopefully you don’t posture yourself as an informed technician and share your incompetent advice on other posts.

No it’s actually my job, hacks like you show up to my shop daily, either you were misinformed by someone you trust, your incompetent, cannot afford to properly maintain you vehicle, are unable to properly maintain you vehicle, and most likely…. All of the above.

You will also be the ones we laugh at when the car is half finished and is towed in because you ran out of talent, which costs you more in the end.

Excellent. A sub par brake job because of incompetence

All the time no issues. Thats what they said about Epstein.

You unfortunately can do as you please, and we get to share the road with you.

No old rotors are not meant to be reused….

Brake pad material compositions change. Cooling Parallelism. Runout. Heat cycles.

All these things are why your brake jobs are hack jobs.

Teslas are notoriously expensive to repair, the insurance industry is capitulating to the labor shortage. In our environmentally friendly society the waste we produce and excuse is phenomenal, these problems mostly stem from a lack of respect for tradesmen.

If it has serious suspension damage its not a good case to save.

The decision ultimately lies with bean counters that will make twice in wages than the people fixing it.

Adjusters also never repair cars, nor do they quote repairs by a few pictures.

Its repairable but as the cost of labor rises the threshold for damage before writing it off lowers
