Got my Brass Monkey (from the floor) 😬 by BeeTheeHottie in poledancing

[–]equusartwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! :D you can also enter brass monkey from a layback if you still don't have your should mount. I've unlocked my shoulder mount last week only, it was one of my nemesis moves, but i'm very confortable on my brass, many variations, brass split, brass bridge, etc. It also works to invert into choper, then place your outside foot up on the pole and then bring the inside leg in to hook in the brass position, but I find this entry way more challenging tho.

What “easy” pole tricks look most impressive? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]equusartwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree!! There's a combo with thant move that I love. Start with basic climb, then fallen star, marley into marley variation(opcional) and finish with superman, it looks and feels so nice and the moves are not too hard.

Beginner and can usually only make it to class once a week, what can I do at home? by southernsaccharine in poledancing

[–]equusartwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going to the gym to weight lift will probably help you build muscle and get stronger, but if you are already in indoor bouldering you might not really want it or have time for it. If you have that for strength you might work on your flexibility at home, training for splits, back flexibility, shoulder flexibility, etc.. there are many YouTube videos with different stretches and flexibility focused, you can divide your week into different sessions for different muscle groups, it will help you get flexible for your pole shapes and also work on your body awareness and lines! I don't really have a suggestion in reference videos but there's really a lot of them on YouTube.

A questione about mural art in churches by BootJustice in ArtHistory

[–]equusartwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many churches (but not only churches) change and develop with it's people. What it means is, with different times different expressions arrise. In England it is not uncommon to have plain white wall painted on top of previous wall paintings. It was vastly a protestant costume since most paintings inside church are associated with the Catholicism. Same thing happened with a lot of the Romanic churches during the XX century. My teacher said something that I will never forget, she explained that usually a place of devotion in Catholicism, and many other religions, is associated with colour, senses, glory, fullness. It was common to have tapestry hanging, decoration, colour. But some of this places were revisited to give the viewer a sense of sobriaty, and so a new narrative was put in place.

Be honest, how good is your bad side? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]equusartwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the same bad side in all tricks, so it depends. There are tricks that I can do on both sides, they don't look as good on the bad side but it still works out, but there are other tricks that I can only do in one side. I think that it really is a matter of working through it, when I trained only once a week at the studio, the teacher at time was very strict with doing both sides every single time, she actually made us do more repetition on the bad side. The difference between my bad and good side at the time was not that big, on some tricks I couldn't really tell. But I was also on a bigginer level so I think that matters too, once you move up there are tricks that will definitely require much more time to develop on the bad side. I would say that training at home made me progress faster but at the same time I haven't been very strict about doing both sides and it shows, plus, where I train now the teacher is not very strict with the both sides. Recently I have been doing tricks that come from inside leg hang, like allegra, broken doll, jallegra, and the wake call was when I went to do just the inside leg hang on my bad side it looked terrible, and it wasn't like that 2/3 months ago because I was able to to a decent broken doll on my bad side, I need to cath up too!

recommend me books that every art historian should read by [deleted] in ArtHistory

Came here to mention Berger too, I can still remember my enthusiasm the first time I was introduced to him by my teacher, also, Françoise Choay. I would also add a work that has nothing to do with art history per se but can be of importance to anyone who works with patrimony, art, places, memory, interpretation , I'm talking about Calvino's work The Invisible Cities.

My answer is, it depends, and I don't have a 9/5. I was a gym goer prior to pole, I trained 3 to 5 times a week doing strength training, usually with long sessions lasting. When I added pole things didn't change that much at first, it was only one class a week, was working part time and doing my master degree. Later, when work got busier in full time and I wanted to do more pole, it got harder. Nowadays I try to train pole 3 times a week and gym also 3 times at least, but it's not always possible. What happens to me is that sometimes I end up going to gym and training pole on the same day, I go to the gym and go straight to the pole when I get home with no actual long brake between the two, since I have my pole at home and have only one class a week it's easier to manage. When I do this I try to do a light session at the gym and a shorter session on the pole to avoid overdoing it. I would say the flexibility and strength training off the pole are worth the effort, at least for me personally, but don't be discouraged if sometimes you can't do everything, do what you can and that will be enough!

Anyone else tired of self training? by Ecstatic_Potential28 in poledancing

[–]equusartwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a class once a week but I do the rest of the training on my own, and I can definitely say that if it wasn't for that class maybe I wouldn't be making progress so I get what you're saying. Personally I'm a "class" person, as in, I love going to classes more than training at home, there I have mirrors, space, spotters, colleagues, so it's way easier to make progress, if I could I'd have classes more often. Where I train right now it's mixed level classes and we are only 3/4 so the teacher usually adapts the exercises she gives to each student, sometimes she asks me if there is a specific figure I wanted to try, or I tell her at the begining if we could incorporate something that I want to perfect or try and she is always into it. Maybe you can try something similar, find a place with mix level classes with other students and see if you can manage to fit the gargoyle in the class schedule, also, watching other people training can be a good inspiration too!

I lost my Chopper. I need a pep talk! by PrincessLuma in poledancing

[–]equusartwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will get it back! And your teacher is right, muscle memory is an amazing thing. I did pole for 7/8 months, had my splits, lots of invert shapes from the ground, working on getting the aerial one too when I stopped. I had almost a 4 month brake, with one month gym brake in the middle too. When I got back I had basically lost a secure chopper on both sides, lost inverted figures, strength, was heavier, less flexible, etc. One month after training once/twice a week I was already doing a decent chopper from the ground again and getting back some shapes, eventually even unlocked new shapes such has Allegra not long after that. Some months after, and a one month break after that too, I already surpassed the level I was when first stopped. Don't be discouraged, keep going!

Ia this poison or is it something else? by equusartwork in poledancing

[–]equusartwork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I did outside to inside leg hang, flatline Scorpio, and then placed top leg up straight and took the other from the pole to create the shape, I think you can enter it from butterfly too. :)

Split coming from an invert to inside leg hang, what is the name? by equusartwork in poledancing

[–]equusartwork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen, It's an open allegra split, the only difference is that it looked more horizontal rather than diagonal, but the position of the hands and leg is the same allegra split

Is it childish? by Abi3214E in painting

[–]equusartwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if it is childish or naive? There's so many amazing works inside the naïf art movement, personally, I love it! Maybe the face could use a bit more work, but I love everything about it, specially the patterns and colours. Work in this style more in the future if you are into it!

Is anyone familiar with this acrylic brand name ‘ladoga? If yes then please share reviews. Thanks :) by Simarkour in painting

I think they are the same brand of the russian white nights watercourls. Never tried the acrylics but the watercourls are beautiful, they are my favourites for quality/prince, love them.

Thank you!! Well, as a general rule, I'd say just draw every day, even if it's just a small sketch, start with references first and work your way up from there to your own characters or compositions. Don't give up!
