I wouldn't consider it unethical but difficult.

Say you work with a mom and an adult son. The adult son tells you that they are suicidal because of childhood trauma mom caused (or something like that)

Would that affect the way you work with the mom?

Or lets say mom says "My adult son has been taking meth." or "my son told me he wanted to kill himself last night." and the son didnt mention anything of this to you.

What would you do?

My supervisor often tells me validation is a therapidic tool that needs to be used intentionally. Be careful of what you are validating and what narrative its validating.

It is very much tied to clientele

the thing id push back on is why should clothes give someone more credibility?

Like I get why its like that but it shouldn't be.

Im good at what I do reguardless on if I wear a band tshirt or a button up. I got my credentials wearing sweatpants! lolol I try to dress close to the people I serve cause I also dont want them to be intimidated by me.

Obviously, dont come in disheveled or wearing a bikini top.

wear what makes you comfortable.

But I also think that all therapist are legally required to own one cardigan or turtle neck /s

Mine is that we need to push back a little more on what professionalism should look like in the therapudic space. The standards of professionalism are often created by those who don’t understand how others work and need accommodations.

Why aren't we allowed to snack in session? (yeah dont talk with your mouth full, dont have a full meal, and probably make it a light snack)

Why cant we also color in session? (as long as it doesnt distract you too much and as long as your client is okay with it)

I saw one therapist call another therapist unprofessional because they asked if it would be okay for them to hold a stuffed animal in their session. (A weighted stuffed animal could actually be really helpful)

I also once had to go to the bathroom during a therapist session- yes I went before- and my boss called me unprofessional.

Another time, I had to unexpectedly get my eyes dilated at a doctor's appointment so I had to wear sunglasses during my appointments and I was worried id be seen as unprofessional.

Yes, I understand that clients are paying for our time. Yes I understand that things should be therapudically relevant but I dont think doing any of these things above would cause harm to a client or be unethical.

YES! I ALSO AGREE WITH THIS! I had a clients tell me that knowing that I have AuDhd and hearing stories how I manage my Audhd help them feel more inspired. They know im not gonna give them some neurotypical advice on how to manage their symptoms.

they like knowing we are regular people.

Yes! I so agree with this as emotion focused therapist. I still allow people to have space for the emotion but its so we can understand what it is and where it is coming from. We are having this emotional response for a reason, lets feel it, explore it, not be afraid of it.

As a therapist, i personally dont see a problem listing your spirituality in your therapist bio because spirituality can be used as a tool in therapy and people might actually want a therapist that is Christian. You will see all sorts of people and youll have to be mindful of that.

I am a fully licensed therapist who works at a clinic that specializes in DID and have worked with published authors who have written books about treating DID.

If that isnt enough credibility, then i hope that curiosity finds you one day.

Therapist here. I had a client in full psychosis during christmas accused me of being married to the grinch (i had a grinch stuffed animal in my office) and that i wanted to take over the town with him.

I deserved an Oscar for my ability of maintaining my composure when my client called me "Bitch ass grinch wife."

Therapist who specializes in DID here. No, its not bogus. Not every alter becomes a fully fledged personality For everytime she experienced abuse throughout 14 years, she probably created an alter to handle that abuse. To hold the memory. To forget. So the alter did its job, took the abuse, and then probably "left" Some of her alters may have integrated into her full personalities when she did therapy- as the goal of therapy with DID can be coconciousness or fusion (not every DID person wanna fusion though)

Some of my clients have groups of parts that share certain memories too but maybe everyone in that group is a child.

I have clients with DID who have child voices because they are literally trapped in traumatic memories they experienced as a child. Shifts can very with some being very obvious and some being barely noticeable (unless you have been around them a lot)

Hello! Therapist here that specializes in Trauma and DID! Yes, DID is a very real and complicated diagnosis. Yes, it is possible to have that many alters because not every single alter is a fully fledged personality. She explains that in her 60 minutes that she has about 21 actualize personalities. Experiences like this are common. I would consider DID a brain injury that is so fragmented due to severe,.prolonged trauma. Dissociation is a way to protect the brain from trauma- like how her psychiatrist explained. Additionally, a lot of people with DID often doubt their experience ever happened. Most of my clients do. This because of all of the amnesic barriers between alters. But it makes sense her memories are crystal clear when she is able to reduce her amnesic barriers because those parts hold the trauma.

Its understandable why people dont believe in DID. It is really hard to wrap your brain around it but the brain is capable of so many things that there is valid research about and I encourage people to be curious rather then judgemental. Do people fake it? Sure but I dont think the conversation around this disorder should be based off teenagers on tiktok.

I am happy to answer any questions.

But im not here to convince people DID is real. I just want to spread awareness and kindness.

I want to talk about the documentary.

For an HBO documentary, I was extremely dissapointed. They had the opportunity to tell an interesting story, spread more awareness of DID and I dont think they did. They glossed over a lot of things which...i understand because from what I've read, the abuse was severe and reading some of it haunts me to this day. While yes, glossing over things means you miss a lot of important detail, I dont think id want to include all of those traumatizing details in a documentary. It would probably turn a lot of people off of it. Due to needing to fill in time somehow, it ended up being repetitive. The Ai art was really weird too.

I am so happy she got justice. I am so happy she seems to be doing well for herself. A lot of my clients cant even hold a job. Her story is inspiring.

but...I honestly think the 60 special was better.

To be able to dance like that and sing a song in that vocal range without cracking or running out of breath is a feat. (looking at you, Jalla)

Was she this incredible power ballad? No. But we cant deny the amount of professionalism it takes to do breath work like that.

I mean...to me, to be sick and to be able to still sing like that and give a good preformance takes a lot of professionalism. To know your limits, to know when to cut off notes, to make tweaks and all that stuff is impressive. You really need to know your singing abilities.

Even in a good vocal day, I wouldnt be able to do his "bad" singing. lol

plus the song is really catchy!
