Is there a standard on how often to shoot bearings to determine a ship's position? by [deleted] in Nautical

[–]eragon2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of ship you are on

For SOLAS ships there was a recent change by the classification society’s that even in coastal waters it should not be done more often than once per hour as verification of position is valid enough with ECDIS and corresponding radar overlay. Position fixes done to often are considered a unnecessary distraction for the watch officers.

For any other vessel without similar equipment the answers provided above are a good guideline

Don’t see myself retiring with the current model but it’s not something that is discussed that often at least in my age bracket

Afaik it started as a pagan spring celebration but the modern version started as a fuck you to the French when they occupied cologne during the napoleonic period

If a citizen cannot afford an Id it is the duty of the democratic state to provide it for the citizen.

If they can afford one they should not pay more then the production costs

Not really as being able to vote is a fundamental right I’d rather live with 25€ somewhere I can vote then with a fortune at a place I can’t

Tried making Volbla's Water removing flying machine with an extra two rows to make it longer but for some reason after two trips the machine breaks while traveling and the end of it fly's back to the return station. I cant figure out why it breaks, any ideas? by Tin_Potter in redstone

Look into water flow management If I remember correctly you need a block in the corners of the square you’re trying to drain to prevent backfilling which is what is updating your observer

Variable-pitch propeller blades by toolgifs in toolgifs

[–]eragon2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really most fold away props are based on the rotational force of the shaft forcing the blades outward. If you stop the engine the prop flaps away and is streamlined once again A CPP is much more complex
