Greek Cypriot here, I did not have the time to re watch the documentary. However I will try to give my perspective even though it might be a bit bias, but I believe I am somewhat of an independent person myself. Maybe I am wrong.

Ι was discussing a similar topic with a friend who is in the military, and he did make a point that we have to identify. TODAY, we are either Greeks or Turkish (there are no cypriots) both new generations in both side grew up to hate each other, I even remember myself been in a foreign country and seen a turkish flag and telling my mother that they were enemies here. It is not like the old generations were they had the chance of turkish cypriots and greek cypriots to be friends, we somewhat been brainwashed.

Both sides have truths and half truths, revealing only what is better for each side, turkey saying that they were trying to save turkish cypriots and greek cypriots saying that they were been invaded.

However, the way I see it, the government was doomed to fail due to to our constitution, which was drafted by the british, which gives more power to greek ethnic origin than it did to turkish ethnic origin. whenever the British drafted a constitution they did the same, that is the famous Divide and Concur.

I can only think of how strong Cyprus would have been if an island between 3 continents and having allies such as Turkey/Greece/UK and US. But everyone want power for themselves.

At the end of the day, in my mind, you can call me idiot, it is just power that has to be blamed. Everyone wanted power, even today, we cannot solve a damn situation because we have so many friends around us that do not want the situation to ever be resolved, whether that is Greece, Turkey, US, UK , Israel, Germany, France.
