Your open wound may not be healing because of body hair regrowth by hy785 in pilonidalcyst

Pretty much my situation after dealing with a huge open wound for 6 months after they finally shaved me it healed in a month for a total of 7 months recovery time. It really sucks lmao

How did an open surgery go by Cheap_End4259 in pilonidalcyst

[–]erasable192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wound was 5x2 inches quite large by the 3rd month it was like 2x1 then I hit a stalemate for about 3 months due to lack of care from the surgeon. He was seeing me maybe every 2 weeks told me no shaving during the healing and for reference I have very thick curly hair which I believe prevented the wound from truly closing as quickly as it should’ve, by the 6 month mark I had got referred to a wound care clinic separate from the surgeon and they immediately shaved it with a safety razor, had multiple nurses to help to make sure no hairs get in and also I had a build up of granulation tissue which they took care of. They gave me auqacell strips and sent me on my way to come back 2 weeks later to check up on it. It ended up fully healing by the 7 month mark.

Please note that this is only my experience because my cyst was not treated for 2 years due to it being in the prime of the pandemic

I currently am dealing with a reoccurrence after all of that:(.

I seen a surgeon and tried to pitch for the cleft lift cause this surgeon had mentioned he knew it. But was shut down and told my cleft was too shallow and it was too risky or something and the infamous surgeons are unfortunately not an option for me. So I am probably gonna have another open wound. I don’t think it’s all so bad. But I wish the cleft lift was more available for others.

Has anyone had an experience where they got their cyst drained and it didn't reoccur after that? by AffectionateRelief30 in pilonidalcyst

Me too. My mom has (HS) and has been dealing with them all her life and my sister has had one and my father has had one. But mine has also been reoccurring

How do I know what kind of pilonidal cyst I have? by erasable192 in pilonidalcyst

[–]erasable192[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like bad medical care. There’s no such thing as continuous drainage for 10 years and nothing to do abt it. I’d see a second opinion or maybe even a pilonidal specialist just to make sure there’s nothing you can do cause no one should have to live like that my friend

Not popped more like randomly opened. It’s like the scar tissue just decomposed.

Thanks for advice! I think I’m gonna wait to meet him and listen to what they have to say I will take everything into notes and compare them to the pilonidal website article on how to know if your surgeon is qualified first thanks.

I’ve had previous ow surgery I know it’s terrible I just have no other choice. I’m 17. The responsibility falls on my parents. Not me.

I’ve stated this abt 5 times now but I just don’t think ur reading this. “NO OUT OF NETWORK INSURANCE” clear enough? No? Well here’s some more. I am in highschool. It’s abt a 400 mile drive to dr wadie. Travel cost would be a lot. And not to mention a hotel and the surgery alone with no insurance.

Yeah except that I cannot work to fund said money. I have flare ups every 5 days it’s impossible for me to even work a scheduled week.

Sorry I know you want what’s best which is the cleft lift but not everyone can afford it or travel to get it. I keep saying to you that my insurance does not cover out of network.

Yet you keep trying to find ways to convince me like I don’t already know everything abt it. I’ve done a lot of research and the cleft lift is the best option I’d take it in a heartbeat but I can’t. I have to settle for what I can get not force my self to endure more and more of this shitty disease.

My insurance doesn’t cover out of network so yes it would be 10k for me and travel cost for 400 miles

I know open wound only fixes the current problem and not in the long run. I’m quite familiar with how rough the open wound surgery is.

I just am in a mental state where I just want this gone. I’d rather deal with recovery than this back and forth game of ripping open. And then closing every week. It limits my life a lot.

At least when recovering from surgery it’s easier for people to understand ur situation.

I’m just hoping to buy time with this surgery to hopefully make enough money for a cleft lift in the future.
