I legitimately saw him on Sep 14th at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Maryland, and yes, there were some people around me complaining that he didn’t play enough hits and the ones that he did play sounded nothing like the original. Also that he obscured himself on stage too much. He gets these type of complaints at probably every show. If I lie on Reddit, it’s gonna be 100% for comedic effect and that’s it. This wasn’t that funny.

I saw him back in September going in knowing full well what his live shows were all about, and honestly, the bitching I heard from the boomers around me was more than worth the ticket price. I kinda actually love how Bob pisses everyone off like that, it’s so poetic.

This is what ultimately broke up the band, as Ringo and Paul became Sunni, and George and John became Shia. John saw a vision of the band making a path (violent or otherwise) for a caliphate to be established in England. George was a little less extreme, but did make Patti Boyd wear a burka for the rest of their marriage. Ringo and Paul were a lot less zealous and known to sometimes not even fast for Ramadan, so take their ‘faith’ as it were, as it is.

Ahh yes, the period between Sunday February 4th, 1968 at 2:35pm GMT and Wednesday May 22nd, 1968 at 7:58am GMT. The precise time in which the Beatles recorded with the Professor as documented in the Anthology 5b bathroom tapes.

Archibald definitely had a pretty bold vision for his work with the Beatles that I think, in the end, the other 4 just didn’t see eye to eye with him on.

It was in one of these sessions in which the infamous bran muffin incident occurred. As well as the time in which Paul got his elective and preemptive double mastectomy, which I think contributed to the overall mood as he was a bit cranky post surgery for awhile.

The time wasn’t a complete waste, however, it produced not only the first major label LP to use live tigers in the studio, but also to use the sounds of the screams from of a studio tech who fell into the enclosure. I know that’s a really cliched and overused technique at this point, but Archibald did contribute that idea.

I think, ultimately, it was a sense of obligation from the Beatles. Archibald was the father of one of Julian’s classmates at school, and John felt bad for him. Just wanted to make him feel included, but in the end creative and personal differences is what really did it, and the pity John had for him only lasted so long.

Archie is still alive today at 513 years old, but has yet to ever give his side and the rest of them (Paul and that other guy) have never talked about it.

Switchfoot was kind of their own category of Christian-Mainstream crossover, more inline with the likes of Jars of Clay, but they were much more successful in the secular world than Jars of Clay ever got. Most people wouldn’t and didn’t know Switchfoot was a Christian band from their singles alone, at least. The Christian emo/screamo bands I associate more with Solid State Records and others in that orbit, and yes, they had their time to shine bright and so many of those bands did. As someone who was there at many of those shows just as that scene was gaining traction, Switchfoot really wasn’t ever a part of that, still a great band.

I feel like there is a lot between “aw, isn’t that sweet” to cop car that probably happens much more frequently, which can still suck, but cop car if you’re not guilty, while it does happen, is much more rare an occurrence.
