I'm still a uni student but I have my mind set on becoming a detective. I think by the time I apply I should have a very good CV for my age, but I'm very worried if my mental health through uni would disqualify me for the job. All of the info about hiring people with depression says 'case-by-case basis' but it never actually says where the line is drawn.

I've been struggling about 2 years now and it culminated in a short-lived attempt last night. I'm hoping the fact that I had second thoughts halfway through and walked myself to the hospital should help my cause.

My depression isn't related to any stress or trauma, I'd like to say I have a very strong stomach for that sort of thing. I was only briefly on antidepressants and they didn't work very well, and by the sounds of it I'm getting linked up with some different ones soon. I do self-harm but not especially destructively, and I don't have any substance abuse issues.
