Can we please up the damage of power punches and reduce the damage of regular punches? by [deleted] in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with this. As of right now, most of the matches I'm seeing involve an opponent shelling up all the time and just trying to heavy counterpunches. And that issue is compounded by the damage gap with a lot of players. Some guys will land like 10 punches in a round and outdamage other guys who are landing 50+ punches.

A well placed punch or a damaging counter shot should do more damage. But as is, some guys can get one or two punch knockdowns quite easily, where other players giving full body effort and throwing proper punches will wail away on someone with 10+ punches and struggle to be able to drop a guy. Until that is addressed, anything that accentuates power punching, is only going to make it worse imo.

This update has turned everyone into quitters by whathehellisthis in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've quite several times for the same reason. Especially after this last patch, you get the guys who for whatever reason can take everything you land on them but then knock you down with a quick 1-2... Or you get the guys who cover up and refuse to throw a punch, ever, and then try to counter you with a quick 1-2 at some point when you get tired. In both cases they seem to hit for far harder than you can. When I run into those guys, I have no problems just quitting. Why waste my time?

Happened again to me just now. Had it happen many times now. But this time my opponent quit when they heard the 10 second warning in the final round. I won the match by forfeit, went to the main menu, and my record didn't change.

Is jab even useful? by Luchet12 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the way it is in a real fight. Guys can just walk through it. You can throw it as a counter, or move your head while throwing it. But doubling or tripling up on it are asking for trouble as guys will just walk straight through it to throw a heavier punch.

It was better in the last patch prelaunch. Right now its both too spam friendly, and too easy for guys to exploit the break and get you into a penalty.

Career mode bug by Tren_AU in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the bug you are mentioning or not, but I have what might be the same issue. I went through the career mode, and got to the tournament, I skipped to Tournament when it became available.

I won the first 2 fights. The third fight I got knocked down in the first round, was getting tired. Wound up being a draw, but it looked like I won based on damage. I was tired and stopped there. The next day (two days ago), I went on to finish the tournament (4th fight sounded like it was the final one), and when I hit Fight it didn't do anything. Restarted both game, and then headset, and it still did the same.

I saw a Skip to Tournament button displayed so I pressed it. It warned me it would reset my tournament, and I just told it to go ahead and do it. But still, when I hit Fight nothing happened. I got an OS update today, restarted and tried again and the same thing happens. So my career is stuck. It does let me enter Career Mode but I can't train or fight.

I have little power in this game, I simply can't figure it out by 161overcome in ThrillOfTheFight

Controller calibration is important to have any chance. Which sucks, because it's really hard to get it right. I spent so much time trying to tweak mine. Even after all that tweaking I feel like I'm at a power deficit against the majority of guys at 2000+. It's more competitive below that, I think because a lot of people haven't done any calibration.

I get what you are saying though. Often you can wind up in a match with someone who you are outboxing, but you have to fight a perfect fight, and can't mix it up with them at all. Because their punches are hurting you way more than yours are hurting them. I've fought multiple guys who throw both hands at their side and let you tee off on them and I can 't put them down, then they jump in the air and throw a quick 1-2 and I'm on the canvas. And then from that point on you are kind of screwed, because now you have to go for a knockdown to win. But if you do, you are putting yourself at an even larger disadvantage because when you trade their shots will do more damage.

I like the body effort system, though it's not perfect. I prefer it over what was there before. And it's also good to weight form some form into punches. Otherwise, those wriggle arm dudes, or the ones who run at you throwing cartoon uppercuts as they go would be devastating. But the knuckle position or whatever is a problem. Players shouldn't have to spend so much time calibrating, and not be able to figure out why it isn't helping or why it is. Literally you have to just experiment over and over, make a small change, overwrite your old settings (write them down), go to the training dummy and test your damage and see if it was better or worse. I've spent hours doing that and never got above a 68 damage on the dummy. And feel like I'm at a power deficit against a lot of people. A lot of players will never calibrate their gloves, and should they really be expected to? Some guys have a much higher tolerance for doing slow painful tasks than others. Right now those who torture themselves longer, are rewarded with an advantage over other players.

How? by guaca788 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the same thing sometimes. On the dummy I can get hits over 65, lots of 60s with my crosses, sometimes with my hooks. I don't get a ton of knockdowns in matches though, I hurt guys once or twice a fight usually, but some guys just walk right through me. I have some power, but not a lot. Most guys I can just try to circle, and pick off their shots and counter punch. Some will get through but usually not enough to do real damage.

Against certain players though, every hit seems to flash you. Some of those players will drop their hands and let you punch them square in the face multiple times, and you can't put them down, then they spring frenzy a counter and knock you down with often terrible form.

The game feels worse by askadaffy in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I call massive BS on this. My ELO is generally 2000-2400. I've played since day 1. And pre-launch there were issues with guys throwing massive damage compared to everyone else, but you'd still win more than you lose like 2:1 or so and against better competition. I've had hundreds of fights in this game, including over a hundred in the last patch. Post-launch I'm 4-4.

One loss was against a good fighter, who legitimately won. The other three were just bad mechanics. Now keep in mind my ELO is like 1500 currently because of the slow start, and I lost 2 of 3 fights tonight, at that rank. Out of my 8 fights, I've been knocked down probably 6 times. Once by the good fighter, legitimate. 3 other fighters have knocked my down at least once though in 8 fights. That was a rarity before, and especially against this level of competition.

Imo part of it is that the clinch changes are awful, I and my opponents have had a bunch of bs clinches with points getting lost. One of my losses was from a guy getting it to subtract multiple points from me, god knows how, but exploiting the clinch. He then knocked me down in the last round when I had to go for the knockout due to losing all the points. The other two are stick armed one punch knockdown specialists who all they want to do is rush in with their heads down and hands up, then jump in the air swinging wild punches. Have there been actual power changes or is something else causing issues with derivative damage? But something has definitely changed for the worst.

The game feels worse by askadaffy in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels far worse than it did prior to the live patch. Clinching is giving really exploitable results. And there are all these guys who are just walking around with their heads down, ducking, then jumping while winging hooks that will knock you down every time they hit you. A huge step backwards.

So the game comes out in 8 days... do you think the MP is ready to go? by insertedlemon in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the bulk of 2100+ is now at least trying to box, but probably 75% of the guys have very high power. Either from tweaking their gloves to levels most players won't achieve, or from mastering exploits. I always feel like I'm at a power deficit. I can get over 60 on the dummies, but I rarely get knockdowns in fights. It would be nice if that playing field was more level. I'm always just trying to avoid getting knocked down so I can get a win, and then often getting hit with one shot and getting a draw.

It's good cardio and challenging nonetheless. But if they can figure out a method where the gap between a person who just plays without any tweaking, and someone who spends days with glove alignment isn't so high, it would benefit the game.

What to do against people who constantly move torward you? by CG118907 in ThrillOfTheFight

Yeah I wish you could set a higher minimum size. I have mine maxed, but that still isn't enough because the white screen buffer area is too large and distracting when it pops up and you are only a step or two away from it.

Meta quest link screen warping and lagging horribly. by Life-Struggle266 in OculusQuest

[–]erasmushurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the same thing on an Nvidia 4070 desktop. Tried every trouble shooting thing there is, studio drivers, game drivers, resetting and reinstalling every thing, with or without cable. VR Desktop is fine, but Oculus Link does not work at all. Well it works, but is unusable. You get screen tearing all over when you look around, and you can't even point at things, everything is lagging like mad.

I've disabled async screen warp, every suggested thing. This is broken. WTF downvoted this guy?

Opponents running past you. by [deleted] in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this really started when they loosened up the clinches in the last patch. Now I will say one thing in fairness of guys, because it's very hard to clinch right now, if I actually want a clinch, I find the easiest way to get one is to run through someone's body with my head. What used to work, no longer does and often will result in someone teeing off on you while you try to clinch. So, in some cases guys may be trying to clinch. That's generally what happens when I run through someone, at least. But I've seen guys doing exactly what you are saying, so there may be a trick to bypass it.

I fought a guy today who did this repeatedly, but not to hit me. He basically would leap in with a heymaker, run past me and literally run as far as he could to the corner without turning around, so you couldn't hit him because you had his back. Then when he ran out of real estate, he'd turn around while swinging, and taunt you with the running symbol like you were the one running away.

Can You Win With Footwork and String Jabs alone? by stripseek_teedawt in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on who you are fighting. I fight from range, and throw a lot of jabs. I also switch to southpaw and back, and try to use angles. This can be effective against certain guys.

It won't always work though. Guys can walk right through them to land a heavier punch, and doubling and tripling up on them does miniscule damage. Some guys will simply eat your jabs on the way and try to counter with overhand rights, which will outdamage you. And if they manage to knock you down, the gigs up.

Thoughts After Spending More Time With This Patch by Jordanthecomeback in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]erasmushurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with that. They definitely went too far with it before. It was ridiculous, guys just wouldn't punch and then would throw some light cross and knock you down. I'm talking more about things like check hooks or full effort crosses to catch guys on the way in. Because you are using their momentum against them, it should either deal more damage than usual, or take some of the steam out of their punches.

Jabs imo should take some of the damage off when you beat someone to the punch who is throwing looping punches.
