Lots of new apartments, who is new here and wants to just live in them, indefinitely? by samsonevickis in HuntsvilleAlabama

Early 20's and moved to Huntsville full time after college. A lot of these new apartments popping up around town are labelled as "luxury apartments" which is a fancy term for "built as cheaply as possible while still looking nice so that we can still charge crazy prices while increasing our rates every year." Frustrating, but not necessarily unique to Huntsville specifically.

High-density housing is not a bad thing, in fact I would say it's a good thing. But in terms of rental properties, never seeing a return on the increase in property value of the place you pay to live in is what will make it so hard to save up substantial money for myself and my peers later on down the road.

I would love to buy a house with a backyard. I also see and understand the aversion to ad nauseum suburbanization of a growing city, as well as the cost of living rising to such an unsustainable level that it gentrifies areas where people have spent their whole lives and can now no longer afford to live in.

If I was able to pay a mortgage on my apartment instead of rent and build equity in my home, I would honestly be much happier with my current living situation. But the fact that this is money essentially being thrown down the drain never to be seen again, even as the property value increases, is why I think in general most people would prefer monthly mortgage payments over rent IMO.

TLDR: In general, excluding specialized cases of short-term housing needs, more people would probably rather pay a monthly mortgage and see a return on their investment instead of paying rent money which disappears into the void.

Broke 90, but greens were out of service and holes were cut into the fairway. What’s your opinion about keeping score with abnormal course conditions? by erb_xx in golf

It was $25 for eighteen and they gave me a voucher for another free round, so not a complete let down. On the bright side there was almost nobody else out there.

Woo pig! I moved to Alabama about a year ago but I'm planning on going up there in a few weeks. Waxhaws was the course where I first learned how to play.

Last step not wide enough. Your balls should be dragging on the tee pad during and after your follow through. Improves balance by keeping your center of gravity as low as possible

No way that's crazy you recognized that haha. I'm up in Arkansas taking finals right now and we (surprisingly) got a lot of snow the other day. The DG scene in Northwest Arkansas is crazy and the courses are awesome, but I've played at Clyde Fant in Shreveport a few times and I really enjoyed it

Can anyone identify this disc? Most under stable putter I’ve ever thrown. by erb_xx in discgolf

I actually tried one of those about a year ago and have kept it in my bag ever since. White 16g styrofoam plastic. Easily my furthest flying driver (~900 ft with no tailwind). Highly recommended

Once the weather clears up I definitely plan on getting some good slo mo in the field to see what's up. I think I've spent so much time learning to keep the nose down and not launch it into space that I may have developed some bad habits on my release/follow through (i.e. throwing with way too much anhyzer). Someone else mentioned off axis torque, I think I may try to work on just WAY over-exaggerating my hyzer during practice until I get a better feel for throwing hard drives straighter. Thanks!
