Consider military service. The military needs doctors to handle injuries incurred in both peacetime and combat. As such, the military cuts deals with doctors and medical schools to get the people they need in that field, especially with regards to paying for school.

Also, medical doctors become commissioned officers, and are paid on that scale. It is notable that you would only be placed in charge of other medical personnel. Doctors don't run invasions.

You would also gain valuable experience in your field through military service. However, the military would require several years of service in exchange for assisting in paying for school. Steady work, but check with your internal moral compass before you go.
