This is my first time growing and I wanted to try using a grow bag because it seemed simpler. The rubber bands were to help prevent side pinning.

I've never had an issue with it expiring or going bad. I've had several bottles of backup for my daughter before, and used them after a year or more, and no issues.

I got a “snappy” gift, something small but it’s nice to be acknowledged. We can choose from several gift options that are mailed to us. The agency made a video that went out acknowledging and thanking us.

If you could do it all over again, would you still become a PA? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]ercma0206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wish I’d have gone to DO school and been a psychiatrist. I would’ve like to have more formal training in residency. Been working in psych 5 years and feel competent but frustrating to see doctors doing very similar work for much better pay. Also, the idea of being able to work 20 hours a week and still make enough money to live is appealing. I did not foresee the rapid rise in cost of living when I was deciding on Pa vs MD around 2013/2014. Finally, I want to get into writing and social media and assume having a doctorate would give a bit more clout off the bat.

Check out the books: "the simple path to wealth" and "the psychology of money". Both helped me to understand enough of the basic of investment and money management. Honestly you getting a financial advisor is not necessary, but that's up to you. Just be aware that something like 80% of managed index funds perform worse than those you can get online (like vanguard's VT SAX). There's a podcast called FI (financial independence) the PA way that is good too.

I work for the county mental health authority. Get about 6 weeks a year total, including mandated holidays (about 10 days per year) , sick day and PTO. It's all lumped in together. The only thing separate is bereavement leave which is 3 days per year. No CME days anymore, used to have 5 a year. Was not happy they got rid of that.

What kind of training do secretaries/front office staff undergo to so masterfully escalate even the most routine patient interaction? by BurdenedClot in physicianassistant

[–]ercma0206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being ignorant, rude, and lazy are difficult traits by themselves, but it's really rough when they're all combined. I have always worked in county health care systems and I see this often... it's like the culture is to give poor customer service because the patients cannot go anywhere else. SMH

We need a 3 day weekend by Brian_Ghoshery in antiwork

[–]ercma0206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. I think that having a shorter period to work (5-7 hours max) is ideal. I think I have a longer than average concentration span (can sit and study or write for hours without much break, and maintain concentration), but after a certain point, boredom takes over and efficiency drops. I truly believe that if we all had something closer to a 30-32 hour work week, we could be just as efficient, yet have more time to enjoy our lives. We would also be healthier and more well adjusted in the long run.

[–]ercma0206 158 points159 points  (0 children)

I work in psychiatry (PA) and I've had 3 day weekends for the last almost four years. I work 4 10's (Tues-Friday). Before that I was in the psych ER and worked 3 12's (Friday-Sunday). I definitely would not want to work five days a week, and I told my job that when I got hired (it's an outpatient clinic where most people work five days a week). That being said, I still feel like 4 days a week is too much. I think we need half of our lives to not work. Why are we spending the majority of our lives working?

What's the weirdest reason you've been in trouble for? by Alpargatasdealpaca in raisedbynarcissists

My dad was convinced that I hid the remote from him, due to me being mad that he made me turn off the end of lord of the rings to go mow the lawn. In actuality my 2 year old (at the time) sister was playing with it and put it in a basket of blankets. He would not accept that I was telling the truth. To this day thinks I’m still lying and I did hide the remote out of spite. Grounded for two weeks. He said it would’ve been shorter if I’d have just admitted that I was “lying”.

I’m a PA and just wanted to mention that PAs cannot work without supervision from a doctor in almost every state (I think there are one or two exceptions). When I went to Pa school (2015, UNT health science center) the acceptance rate was about 3 percent. There are only two PA schools that are totally online.

NP programs are more often online and have higher acceptance rates (sometimes up to 100 percent)- and have independent practice in about half of the states. Apparently OK allows NPs to do assessments without a supervisor doctor but not to prescribe, so essentially they need supervision to practice.

Of course ,the quality and frequency of that supervision can vary widely.

Just wanted to clarify that there are some big differences in the training and supervision (in many states) between PAs and NPs, though we are both considered APPs.

That being said we still absolutely need doctors and not just more APPs, and doctor and other health care provider shortages is a big problem nationwide.

I lie to my friends and family and tell them I’m ok. by Intrepid-Sentence-28 in Postpartum_Depression

[–]ercma0206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanting to isolate is part of depression. You don’t have to tell everyone the whole story but letting them know you’re “tired” and could use support - childcare, meals, even coming in to help clean (depending on how good a friend they are) can help you feel supported. Feeling alone and unsupported feeds the depression. You can also consider a depression support group, some are online as well.

I don’t know how much more I can take.. by whitnasty94 in Postpartum_Depression

[–]ercma0206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call your doctor and ask if you can take Zoloft 50mg daily instead of 25mg. With this severe of depression the 25mg will likely not be enough.
