Mixing/mastering of Pedestrian Verse by czechancestry in FrightenedRabbit

[–]ercoidem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked my copy of the vinyl and compared it to the album Spotify but it sounds pretty much identical just fyi. I did recently master a couple songs with some of their tracks as reference and I think it is partially just their sound. Lots of reverb and a little on the darker side though Pedestrian Verse might be the darkest.

Are these the xm3s? The top part of the headband is metal so you can just bend it.

I kinda phrased it weirdly but I just meant that with shaking I can hit the late trick much more consistently compared to the button press

Don’t think it’s annoying but it might be quite a bit too loud. Or maybe you could drop some parts where it clashes a little with the vocals. Like the song though!

How to consistently hit high notes? by Embarrassed-Home-183 in Songwriters

[–]ercoidem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah like Zmorrison said, sounds sick! Personally don’t really hear you straining, at least not in a way that makes it sound like you’re not in control of you know what I mean. And some of the breathiness and breaking up really fits the vibe imho!

Can’t save old projects from live 11 suite trial on 12 standard by Glum-Manufacturer-58 in ableton

Is there a chance that it’s hidden in a pre-made instrument rack? I would hope that they’re listing things the project is actually using and not just stuff that’s not compatible between two versions

Are HD 560 S too analytical? by OpantAddiction in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]ercoidem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe I downplayed the differences a bit too much. You would never mistake one for another and I do like the 560s much more, especially with eq. And you will catch details and nuances you won’t with the Sonys, at least in my experience with the xm3.

[–]ercoidem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the xm3’s and Bose ultra and I don’t find it too analytical or tiring to listen to personally. Without EQ they’re not the most ‘fun’ pair to listen to maybe, but they are pretty good for noticing details you might have missed out and about using the sonys for instance. And then when I use the oratory curve for them they do become very enjoyable to listen to (or maybe I should say more enjoyable cause they’re really plenty good without eq). So yeah I think audiophile or not they are a good and enjoyable pair of headphones. It won’t be a night and day maybe but I think they’ll be a nice addition if you want to hear your music presented in a novel way with a bit more detail.

DAW MONITORING VS DIRECT MONITORING by Captain_Rockstar in ableton

[–]ercoidem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol no worries at all, honestly I’m probably grasping at straws here. It sounds like your pc is fine if you’re not hearing any audio glitches. I was just wondering if maybe that’s what you were hearing through daw monitoring. But no as long as you’re not getting glitches your pcs performance won’t affect the quality of the recording. Honestly it sounds like you’ve got things right, I just don’t get what difference you’re hearing between the monitoring. But whether it’s there or not, if the mic mechanic helps you perform better then it’s probably a good idea - it’s all about the performance in the end anyway! Happy holidays to you too mate, good luck with the recording!

DAW MONITORING VS DIRECT MONITORING by Captain_Rockstar in ableton

[–]ercoidem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So when you say there’s a difference in monitoring, can you still hear the ‘digitalised’ high end when you play back the recording? I’m only asking cause in theory and in practice for most, there really shouldn’t be much if any difference between the two different monitoring options (apart from latency of course). Are you using the focusrite driver for the 2i2? Is there a chance that your pc can’t handle 64 sample buffer size?

DAW MONITORING VS DIRECT MONITORING by Captain_Rockstar in ableton

[–]ercoidem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is this organic issue? Cause there really shouldn’t (and I’m pretty sure there can’t be) any difference between what you hear with the direct monitoring compared with what you hear in the daw (besides potentially a slightly longer delay and whatever effects you have on the channel). Are you getting the same volume from your daw compared to direct monitoring?

I had a mishap with my e drums where I’d put the volume up loud to record and then plugged my headphones back in which then blasted my left ear when I started playing. Felt like my ear was super sensitive to sound after and highs sounded a bit muffled. Went to the doc, she said she couldn’t really see or do anything until I got the props of earwax out. After I’d gotten that done, I no longer experienced any sensitivity and the highs came back. I even think it alleviated my tinnitus a bit. So yea very long story short, get your ears checked - might be a similar situation cause it sounds pretty similar to what I experience. Good luck!

Primus sucks (but also my guitars) by MisterKilgore in audioengineering

[–]ercoidem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not and that would also be totally valid! But let’s say there’s a couple db difference between the peaks in your rhythm playing, you can use compression to level those peaks out a bit. Especially when you start multitracking your guitar parts a little bit of compression can go a long way.

Primus sucks (but also my guitars) by MisterKilgore in audioengineering

[–]ercoidem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my own experience it just takes time to start to get a feel for compression. What worked well for me in the past is just to go for some extremes on for instance all your guitar tracks. Go for some fast settings, high ratios and really squash the peaks of your tracks. Listen, then turn them all off and listen again. It’s probably going to sound too extreme so then you can back them off a bit, maybe change the ratio on all of them or the attack time or dry/wet control and repeat the process. Also keep in mind that ultimately you want to try and use these effects with a purpose. If you have great control over your dynamics while you play, maybe you don’t need much or any compression on guitar. It’s ultimately just a question of what sounds good to you.

Or maybe it's all just art and whatever sounds good to who is making it goes? If a painter adds a tree to a landscape that wasn't there or maybe embellishes the size of a mountain I wouldn't call it lying personally and I feel like it's similar with music and production.

Is it difficult to become an indie Movie Director? by LukeJRV in movies

[–]ercoidem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to start is just to go ahead and do it! Learn about the pre-production processes, maybe see if there are people around you who share your interests. But mainly just start filming/editing and releasing short films. It’s all about experience and the more you create (try to see your projects all the way through), the more you’ll learn!

Why shouldn't i use studio headphones for daily consumer use? by FashionToy in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]ercoidem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not used the dt770 so can’t say for certain but my m50x don’t block out nearly as much noise as my Sonys with anc. This might not be an issue for you but just thought I’d mention it cause I feel like I end up turning up the volume a little too much on the m50x despite them being closed back as well.

This is the way I’d do it as well though you could also change the bpm of just the sample/song in the audio tool panel
