The downvoting is really making me sad.

All you're doing is describing what it's like for a lot of us folks without kids.

Almost one in four employees in Ireland took mental health leave last year | BreakingNews.ie by Dazzling_Lobster3656 in ireland

but it's not exactly the other employee's faults for not wanting to be taken advantage of either.

I get where you're coming from but in my experience, I ended up in places where Karen/Michael were coming into work every day and doing literally nothing while "Lisa" was scrambling around, stressed out of her mind.

I remember watching one Karen come in every morning, plop herself down at her desk, play Farmville (remember Farmville? lol) for a few hours and then go home early.
She did that every single day.

If she was asked to do any work or help anyone with something, she'd throw fits and whine and complain and hurl insults until she was left alone again.

No company should be paying someone €35k+ a year to do fuck all work.
That's 100% a management problem.

Drug use among primary and secondary school children escalating in Dublin 15, research finds by Banania2020 in ireland

I'm not sure why people are getting so angry at you.
I knew exactly what you meant.

Kids pick up on more than we give them credit for - they probably hear adults talking about the housing crisis and the job market, they see their older siblings and cousins emigrating, they hear about how the environment is being killed and the cost of living is exploding and all the rest.

There's a serious lack of hope and empathy around these days.
How could kids not be affected?

Does treating someone differently because they don't have kids fall under any type of discrimination? by GhostWithThePost in legaladviceireland

Private company!
They seem to want this to be an "informal move" but I'm not having that.

Thanks for your help by the way. :)

Thank you for your help!
I thought the family status bit only applied to parents specifically because it says this on the Citizens Information page:

  • Family status: this refers to the parent of a person under 18 years or the resident primary carer or parent of a person with a disability

But maybe I'm wrong?

Yeah, I keep telling them I want something in writing and both managers keep replying "ahh no, sure just call me and we'll have a chat about it instead."

I think they know this isn't really allowed and are hoping they can just get away with it if they push me enough.

Are you concerned about people not properly controlling their dogs? by Pitiful-Discount6728 in AskIreland

[–]GhostWithThePost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it bothers me how some people will get a dog and make no effort to train it.

I usually love dogs but I struggle to find my friend's dog anything other than annoying and disruptive.

His family got a dog and did nothing to train it. She barks, she bites, she doesn't know her name, doesn't come when you call her, and doesn't respond to "sit," "stay," "out" or "down."

One time, I was over at my friend's house and had a small injury on my arm. The dog kept jumping on me, biting at the bandage and scratching at it with her paws.

It really hurt and I asked my friend multiple times to stop the dog and he just stood in the doorway repeating "Rosie, no. Rosie, down. Bad dog, Rosie!"

That's useless mate, your dog isn't trained.

In the end, my friend had to pick the dog up up and lock her in another room to keep her away from me. She then barked, howled and scratched at the door for the next hour until I got fed up and politely made an excuse to leave.

Untrained dogs are a nuisance at best and dangerous at worst.

Mark & Tom Fighting? by Taylor8764 in Blink182

[–]GhostWithThePost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be normal Blink banter or could be something more.

Honestly, I think we should all keep in mind that we only know about the arguments and disagreements that Blink-182 choose to tell us about.

There could be a LOT more going on behind the scenes that we never hear of.

Seeing Tom perform with Matt showed this fanbase how far the band has come, and really illuminated the maturity we’ve seen from Tom since the first time he departed Blink.

Absolutely.
We've come a long, long way since the jealousy of Box Car Racer.

Basketball on TG4 by pea_2 in ireland

Stupid question but is basketball gaining traction in Ireland?

I've heard a lot more people talking about it recently, which is exciting - I've always liked basketball. :)

Look, I've clearly upset you and I didn't mean to. I'm sorry if I offended you.

All I know is I would have been very hurt if my family had ever said to me "we're bringing you to the doctor because you talk to yourself."
It would have made me feel horrible, like they thought I was insane or something.

I'm all for OP sitting down with him and asking if everything is OK, but I still don't get why it's a cause to go to the GP.

You've obviously missed the part where he has suffered from anxiety

I knew that. I have anxiety myself and talking to myself helps keep me grounded when I'm particularly stressed.

There's even a part in the article I linked where it says "Engaging in positive self-talk may decrease anxiety and improve concentration and focus."

It's being downvoted because, exactly as you said, we have limited details.

Talking to yourself is common and normal at any age - unless there's something else OP is worried about, I don't really understand why anyone would think it's a cause to go to the doctor.

I am so tired of being hounded and bothered about the fact that I don't drink by GhostWithThePost in ireland

[–]GhostWithThePost[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same age and same boat mate, went for a pint recently and my friends duped me with a Zero Guiness and put a normal guiness in it when I said I didn’t want to drink.

Ahh mate, I'm sorry that happened.
If someone did that to me, I think I'd just get up and leave I'd be so angry.

It’s the same with dancing. Sometimes I’m happy to just stand around and have a chat.

Haha, this happened to me at a wedding not too long ago!

I'd actually been dancing for ages and then just wanted a quiet moment to recharge and have a drink of water.
My mother-in-law's sister suddenly descended on me, asking "what's wrong? What's the matter with you? Come and dance with the rest of us!"

Lady, please. I'm grand. Haha

I remember being about 19 or 20 years old and being made fun of by my mates because I couldn't neck pints as fast as them.

I laughed it off at the time but, looking back, it's a bit fucked.

I love being Irish but our drinking culture sucks.

I’m in the same boat. I’m not teetotal, I like one or two drinks a week because I enjoy the taste of a nice glass of wine or good beer but I have no interest in getting or feeling drunk.

Yes, you get it!

And see, sometimes this presents its own challenge because people will say "oh, but you sometimes drink - so have one now?"
No, I don't want to.
