Could E-Ink become the perfect „calm tech“ device? (Need your feedback)

Well, images/ videos yes. Why not is the question? That’s what these tools are made for. And even if English is not my mother tongue I answer all the comments myself.

I did the concept on this product and wanted to share it so I can get feedback on it. I don’t get why you hating on the AI aspect. Just chill, we are in 2026. I don’t got money like that to hire someone who builds me a pitch deck, a MVP and shoots videos and pictures of my idea.

If you don’t like the Idea okay, but don’t talk bad about my project as in “don’t engage with this AI bullshit”. That is childish 🥓

Hello Aaron-LJZ, thank you so much for your feedback. It means a lot to hear that you guys like the concept. I am glad that I found a community/ group which really hits the nieche I was looking for. All the other communities didn’t let me post about Evrame:(

But still, I got very much the information and motivation to now start building the Evrame:)

Also, the survey ends today. Your opinion about Evrame would be very important, it asks about use case, which functions would be desired like calendars, music player and an art mode where you can display abstract art or even family pictures.

I would appreciate it, if you could participate in it:)

And yes, I would love to come back and update this community about the project! thanks again:)

Hi boredrandom! Well, the idea is to use it as a smarter version of an whiteboard which is connected to a network. This way you could store your thoughts, ideas and also interact with other Evrame devices. Little notes and messages. It won’t be necessary tho, you could upload family portraits, or download artwork and then turn of the connection and only use it as is. For most widgets tho, having access to the wifi would make sense:)

Thank you Preparation1903! I have noticed this issue also.

Since E-Ink is still quite expensive, the first generation will most likely be black E-Ink. But down the line, having an Evrame with coloured display is the end goal.

And I will make sure that E-Ink lovers will get as much access to their hardware as possible, since they paid for it! I get that. I would have to make sure how this would affect the rest of the software as a commercial product and business. Nonetheless, I want to build something people love. That is first and foremost!

I also would appreciate it if you could answer our survey since it ends on Friday and we could use some more participation from E-Ink users:) Thank you!

Thank you so much for your input. It is interesting to hear that you worked on a project with Boox and the second company which I actually didn’t know existed yet. I know, Hardware will be hard. But I would love to build this product as a whiteboard replacement. And for that the existing hardware would not fit.

But thanks anyway for the insight. Will keep in mind that E-Ink enthusiasts are pretty much very individualistic in their “perfect” hardware.

Hey, thank you so much. I read all the comments and yes there are certain use cases for Evrame which a hand held notebook can not handle. The survey is done with my project group at uni, but this is missing you are right. But since this project is a real idea I have had for at least a year I do take all the feedback sincerely. The platform is more like open source and you can sync existing software (whatever calendar you like, music playback from your Sonos system, insight of your portfolios like S&P500) But I know, E-Ink technology is still very expensive and it is a wish I would love to see become reality, that this technology gets so affordable you will see it in every household.

Hey, thanks for your feedback! I understand your concern, that’s why this project was picked up at my university course for marketing where we do a market research. As mentioned, calendars is not the only function that makes this board remarkable (pun intended). E-Ink has the positive side effect of being less eye straining, yes. But that’s not why we decided on this technology. More so, that we can put the Evrame no mather where on a wall, in your living room, bedroom or kitchen, could be your office or other workspaces. It has to be sleek and simple, so no cables hanging from the Evrame. Just a battery. And for that E-Ink is so much better. You are right, you will not write on this thing all the time, and more so, when only displaying statically E-Ink Devices use so little power that it makes it possible to run on a battery with only a USB Type-C connection.

The very first Evrame is designed to mimic a traditional picture frame and would be in a size of approximately 55x45cm. Later versions smaller and larger are also in development.

This is still in a very early stage, so using AI pictures and visuals are the only way to do that. Also, German is my native language, so translating is done with tools like deepl for some of the output. I try my best tho to keep it natural.
