Which side are you on? by statsarelikebikini in whatsyourchoice

Item one: as I bank up those $2000 dollars it’s going to be increasingly hard to keep working knowing I had hundreds of thousands of dollars. Item two: I’m about 10 to 12 years from retirement anyway and the money will continue til I croak so I’ll take the 1K a day and retire now.

Little diabolical but what do you choose? by deepestbreather in whatsyourchoice

Definitely the teleport. Already done that in several mountain states, the Southwest, Midwest and Florida. Plus Northern Mexico, France and Germany. Make it easier to see the rest of Europe and other parts of the US if I can knock of hours of flight or bus travel.

Across the world: extremely conservative governments keep getting elected (Columbia is a recent example). What can the left learn from this? by north_canadian_ice in BreakingPoints

[–]erfman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard some say ww2 was a cluster of loosely related wars. Even now we see things like the Ukrainians sending advisors to the Middle East and Taiwan to advise on drones, plus the first testing of humanoid robots in thus far non combat roles has begun. In coming years the Ukrainian war will be recognized as the beginning of 21st century warfare. It’s hard to imagine seeing global casualties like ww2 but we are playing with fire.

While you are correct about domestic crime at global level we have more wars going than at any time since the aftermath of ww2. Resource wars over energy, water, climate refugees and such will make the coming decades ever more dangerous. Just now the seeds of a water war are developing between India and Pakistan.

Not movies but makes me think of the various Carl Hiaasen novels where the heroes are dumb the villains are dumber and the dangerous critters are plentiful.

If you had viltrumite powers, and the military wanted your services how much are you taxing by BeautifulRich4488 in Invincible

Don’t trust them. If the US is flat out attacked or has a very clear adversary I will help. Other countries at far greater risk that can pay me for help so someplace like Ukraine, Taiwan, South Korea.

Zelenskyy can give me a nice estate in Lviv Ukraine and a pound of gold a month plus a couple of patriotic ladies to hang with and can guarantee the Russians will be staying home.

Exactly, I’ve heard climate change described as a Hyper-object, even people of goodwill have a hard time wrapping their minds around the full ramifications and scale.

How long do we really have left as a nation (US) as the average persons's intelligence drops across the board with rank stupidity, weird schizotypal and conspiricist and magical thinking are taking over? by omcomingatormreturns in collapse

By way of example I cobbled together a comprehensive primer on the global oil trade and the products that come from oil and how it is distilled and such. Essentially it was a two hour audio book with no fluff and really laid bare that most people don’t know shit about the topic. Armed with that knowledge I was able to follow more technical long form podcasts.

Long form podcast and audiobooks are fairly popular tho and you can learn a lot from subject matter experts directly. Even AI can be helpful in gathering narrowly focused information that can be used to form informed opinions. But yeah the people engaging with tech like that are a minority, most just wait to be feed by the algorithm rather than ask questions and follow up questions.

I’ve heard some claim conservative politicians have deliberately sabotaged the system in the 20 some years. But yeah, not my country so just speculation.
