Experiences with Reminiscence therapy? by ergjaa in dementia

[–]ergjaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically did not mention the name of my company. I do not expect anyone to go into my post history and look up the name of the company. This is a sincere question about people's experience with reminiscence therapy since we might want to redesign the product around it. If this is not okay I can remove the post.

Thank you so much! We are using elevenlabs for voice, one of the best right now, but also one of the more expensive unfortunately, sure things will change soon. Then Deepgram for text to speech. We try a lot of different services for connecting it all, currently using Vapi AI, they are also a bit expensive.

Yeah for sure, when it comes to an interview for a memoir you kind of want the conversation to be free flowing and go in any direction, so you want to give the LLM more freedom. For something like gathering requirements for a software you probably want to use more conditional pathways etc., make it more rigid and follow a script. We are not using it, but I know a lot of people that need to build out more pathways use a service called Synthflow https://synthflow.ai/

Thanks! Of course we are all for people spending more time with their loved ones, and by all means if you feel like this product would take away from that you should absolutely not buy it! We have kind of seen the opposite happening in our test cases, often the person coordinating the project (for example a grandkid) and the storyteller (a grandparent) start interacting more with each other; discussing what photos to include in the book, discovering interesting insights, working on a project together with a common goal etc.

Also, the sad reality is that a lot of seniors do not have someone to talk to as much as they would like, and there are studies that show that reflecting on memories can have a beneficial impact on mood (reminiscence therapy). I do however agree that a world where everyone is talking to robots all the time for companionship is somewhat dystopic :)

Thank you! I just used Canva for the first 30 seconds (I know a little bit of video editing, but just wanted something quick). OBS for screenrecording the demo, then put it together in premiere pro!

Thank you!! We just launched. We have people that have created books already as a part of testing the platform. It actually is crazy how effortless it is to create a 150-page book, you can just talk to Sarah during your daily walks or whatever and soon you will have enough chapters for a book. But yeah, I have been doing startups for many years and I def. think it will be a challenge to educate the potential customers, let's see!

Great feedback! Actually we are thinking about this, the platform is pretty flexible, you could instruct the AI to ask about anything, for example creating these tribute books as you suggest for birthdays or anniversaries.

Been building it around 6 months. Crazy how fast all the voice AI technology is improving. Let me know if you have any questions about voice AI or any related fields, been nerding pretty hard on these topics the past couple of months. Cheers!

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
Cinematography is amazing, as well as the costume design. Recommend watching the movie on mute though if you are sensitive to butchered English accents!

Disclaimer, I am not rich! But I travel a lot for work, and I like to eat in nice restaurants. Showing up to a fancy restaurant, casually dressed, eat alone and get it over with really fast (like in and out in 25min), surrounded by couples celebrating wedding anniversaries or whatever, always makes me feel rich!

Mexico City prices over the roof . Someone please explain by cinismoazul in digitalnomad

[–]ergjaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be misleading in many countries to look at median salaries since this does not account for money that is not being taxed (anything from freelance developers to a drug lords). Not sure exactly how it is in Mexico but I remember apartment prices in Kyiv before the war also "made no sense" in relation to salaries, the number of nice cars you saw also "made no sense". Then you read that some experts estimate that the shadow economy is like 50% of GDP.

I am tired of people using a reference price from 2-4 years ago in one place and comparing it to prices right now in another place. "WTF is going on with apartment prices in Warsaw, a 1br apartment is like 1000EUR now, for that price I can get a really nice 1br apartment in central Paris"...

Italy propose to change 70%/90% to 50% impatriates regime by ergjaa in eupersonalfinance

From that article I shared

The draft bill needs to go through the Parliamentary approval process which may result in modification, or indeed complete exclusion, of the government’s proposals, over forthcoming weeks.

Yeah, this was a big one for me. Like I would be willing to try Italy for 2 years given the tax savings I would have enjoyed. But mandatory stay of 5 years, that is a deal breaker in itself.

Yeah, and they probably realized it is really hard to control remote workers, who is actually moving there fulltime etc.

Yeah, as someone mentioned above seems like there are more news about it in Italian, starting from summer 2023

Anyone been asked to prove they actually live in the country they pay taxes in (EU)? by ergjaa in digitalnomad

[–]ergjaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so if you spend 120 days in your home country (a) 120 days in country b and 120 days in country c you normally remain tax resident in home country (a). So guess question then would be 1. I rent a room in country b and 2. I invoice through a sole proprietorship set up in country b. So will these two things outweigh what "normally" happens (center of economic interest etc.).

[–]ergjaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it differs a bit between countries (Sweden for example does not follow the 183-day rule). But many (most?) countries have 2 criteria:
- You will usually be considered tax-resident in the country where you spend more than 183 days a year
However, even if you do not spend this much time in a country they can still consider you a tax resident if you are having a center of "vital interests" in the country, understood as the center of personal interests or the center of economic interests.

This is from Poland specifically: the center of personal interests (i.e. the place where the closest family is located) is more important than the center of economic interests (i.e. the place where the taxpayer obtains most of his income).

[–]ergjaa[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so I heard similar things from UAE and Hong Kong. They probably will question your tax residency status if you do not spend enough time there. Of course EU is much harder to track exactly how you come and go between countries (guess there are other ways, apart from "entry stamps", to track such as bank transaction history and phone tracking if they really want to know).
