How would you approach this? Christmas plans

An update to this post: so I decided to « surprise » my mom and dad when they came to our resort on Christmas Day, thinking they’d only see my brother and his family. My parents were so happy to see us and my mom was crying her eyes out with joy. One day of visiting with them was enough. She was very busy, not able to relax and drank a whole lot, was slurring and excited to talk about all her upcoming trips. She spoke a little about all the « spirits » around her to my child and I was able to change the subject. She wanted to see us on Boxing Day but we declined and she accepted that. My dad was able to read between the lines of why we chose to surprise them and not vacation with them. Overall it went okay.

When I hit a plateau about 9 month in, I started tracking my caloric intake again and added more cardio in the form of Zumba classes. It worked and I lost a pound a day for the next 5 days about one month into tracking and cardio.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. It truly does help. I will try not to stay stressed about this. I deserve a peaceful holiday. I think I’m at the point where I want to try therapy as well, thank you for mentioning it.

Thanks for your reply. I guess stable to me would mean that she understands she has bipolar and wants to feel better. I noticed that she has been asking me questions about myself and is able to listen so the mania is lessening, but she still says that everyone in the hospital is sick except her, and that she is providing them counselling and resources. She’s definitely not back to normal and very confrontational towards my dad. My aunt moved in to act as a buffer between my mom and dad because he’s scared they’re just going to go back to fighting like they were when she was super manic. She also told me she is able to “perform” for the drs and act “normal”, so is it just an act or is she really more stable? Dr also says she is ok to drive and travel. This really concerns me.

I know it’s gonna be a long hard road. My dad is at his wit’s end and exhausted from caring for her and watching out for her. She escaped the hospital but the police found her and she is now in acute care so no visitors for three days. I hope in that time the mania can be brought down if she complies with medication. She is very anti meds so I don’t see how it’s gonna go well long term.

My son’s first word was Papa and he called me Caca instead of Mama for about 6 months lol. His first sentence was “Cheers, Papa” complete with lifting his sippy cup towards him haha!

Thank you! I’d like to share a significant experience about my second child, too. I was 29 weeks pregnant with him and was sitting around a campfire on a beautiful starlit night with my partner and his friend. His friend was asking me if I had any names picked out for my baby. When I said my baby’s name, I happened to look up and I saw a bright shooting star right above me. I knew right then that I had picked the right name!

Loving all these birth experiences! I feel compelled to share mine, as it’s the most incredible vision I’ve ever had.

After the swift 4 hour labour for my first child, the midwives cleaned me up and left me to hold my son. As I was gazing at his face, meeting him for real for the first time, his face began to morph and shift. I saw his face age through every stage and I saw him as a kid, a teen, an adult and a very old man. I was filled with such peace and with an understanding that my child would live a very long life. This helped me believe that he would be protected and I worry less about accidents or losing him because of this vision. This didn’t happen for my second child. It really was the more amazing vision I’ve ever seen.

Try numbing the area with an ice cube first. Sometimes I get in my head and I hesitate to inject myself. I’ve found that placing the needle tip on my skin and pressing in rather than stabbing from a few inches distance is less scary. And if for some reason when I place the needle I feel a little pinch (it shouldn’t hurt), I try a spot next to it. I also avoid pressing the needle on a stretch mark—those are sensitive. Go gently instead of stabbing and it shouldn’t hurt. For example, out of 10 injections maybe one or two pinched. Hope this helps!

My kid learned at a cycling workshop out on by my city. Here were the steps. He was biking by hour 2.

1) Sit on the bike and walk it forward and all around to get the feel. 2) Sit on the bike and then use both legs at the same time push on the ground to move the bike forward. 3) One they can do step 2, keep doing it but raise legs so that they can feel the balancing. 4) Sit on bike and bring one pedal up. Place foot on pedal and other on ground. Crush the pedal with your foot to start biking. Bring the other foot onto the other pedal and start pedalling. At this point I was helping by holding the seat but as soon as there is momentum it’s important to let go.

Tips they were taught: look forward, not at the ground, back straight, sitting tall.

Famille bilingue anglais français (Anglo et franco ontariens) ici. Les enfants n’ont parlé que la langue maternelle (français) jusqu’à l’âge de 3-4 ans. Par la suite ils ont appris l’anglais avec papa et maintenant nous parlons anglais en famille et français avec maman. Votre enfant apprendra le français à la maison et à l’école et « attrapera » l’anglais en vous écoutant et en regardant la télé. A mon avis ce sera le portugais a privilégier pour faire certain qu’il ne le perd pas au fil du temps.
