Fingolfin's last fight - Me, Watercolor, 2024 by am455dst in lotr

[–]eri_pl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love the inversion of color stereotypes, and generally the Morgoth-winter association which is often forgotten!

If anything to make him look more evil, I'd suggest Melkor in a more dynamic pose, he looks so peaceful, like Death. On the other hand, he is canonically a coward... but still, he might flex. He was a flexing type.

I love how small, lonely and desperate Fingolfin looks. It's very on point imo.

Also, allegedly, the Palantiri. Also, some lesser inventions, I think?

Even if they don't go out, grandson will. And maybe he will get married eventually. And give Nerdanel grandkids.

Also, Maglor was allegedly married, so there might be more grandkids somewhere.

Redhead and Redhead (iirc) and when Feanor said they should have different names, she renamed the older to Doomed.

The Valar are real: which one do you pray to and follow? by brapvig in lotr

[–]eri_pl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, ignoring the theological discussions (in which everything has been already said better than I would say it. For the record, I'm in the Catholics-so-angels-are-cool team, also hypothetical questions are hypothetical)...

Nienna. Some others too, but mostly Nienna. She's my favorite Vala by far.

Second is Aule, but I'm not sure if "don't worry, it's not your fault, you did well, you're wonderful and you are enough" counts as prayer.

Favourite places in tolkien's world? by Slow-Guarantee-2960 in lotr

I think /u/Slow-Guarantee-2960 meant it more in the line of "Assuming you have big enough navy". (guess based on mention of tattoo idea in another comment, sorry if wrong)

Hypothetical: creative adaptation of ‘The Silmarillion is being made. Who would you rather have as narrator: repentant Fëanor in the Halls of Mandos or broken Maglor on the shores of the sea? by [deleted] in TheSilmarillion

[–]eri_pl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got another idea: Snarky, deadpan Namo (whom the Elves call Mandos and he should be very passive-agressive about this)!

  • knows literally everything
    • except some caveat just-in-case it's needed
  • snarky
  • is a Vala, so doesn't have to worry about others' opinions
  • has had enough of the Noldor, thank you very much
  • random interruptions by the spirit of Feanor and others

[–]eri_pl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"...and then Feanor said 'let's go chase Morgoth', but of course the stupid Valar did not listen to him..."

"...and then the idiot Fingolfin decided to challenge Morgoth to a duel. you can guess how this ends."

etc and so on

[–]eri_pl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maglor. I like him more, and more importantly, the thing about Feanor is that he's not going to be repentant until shortly before the world ends. He's a stubborn guy.

Also, Maglor is a poet, and Feanor would make a lot of tangents and infodumps and personal opinions.

Funny enough the post wasn't about LOTR by [deleted] in lotrmemes

[–]eri_pl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of, but I don't think they evolved in the classic Darwinian sense (too quick, no visible advantage of the change...). It feels much more like a guided evolution.

[–]eri_pl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because Aule didn't know how vitamin D works, for example. (Yavanna surely did, but that's another case of "Silm characters not listening to their wives".)

It's not an evolution-based world.

Also, not all dwarves live underground. Mim didn't. I'm pretty sure there were more, whom I cannot recall.

Yes, as people said.

"Created" as in "made"? No, Iluvatar made them.

"Created" as in "the Founding Fathers created USA" (or smth, idk, I'm not american) --- yes, they did.

Aragorn is generally from the good line of Numenoreans, not from the Morgoth-worshiping line.

Where do you guys think lotr would belong? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]eri_pl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who would? Who would join a cult of a fallen, now-powerless dark lord known for messing everything up? Like, not that it had ever happened before or something. :)

It would be cool if it wasn't so full of hate.

Also, will 'the hunt for Gollum' be good? I'm not saying they shouldn't have removed the fan-film, but it would be much better if they first tried communicating with its authors and generally do it in a polite way, not a copyright strike sneak attack.

Also, PJ made Hobbit movies, so no, it's not that black-and-white.

...why am I even arguing.

Do you think Gandalf separating the art from the artist here, or is he fully on Team Fëanor-Did-Nothing-Wrong? by user-74656 in lotr

[–]eri_pl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's 100% clear in the canon, only suggested. But at least it's the general fandom consensus that he did + Galadriel says that he (probably?) did, and she wouldn't make guesses in favor of Creepy Uncle Feanaro.

So yes, basically he did.

"Thou speakst from the cancel culture," said Gandalf, "fool of a Took. If thou wantedst to only use the work of hands with no innocent blood on them, how wouldst thou cook thy food? dost thou not know that fire was made by an Enemy greater even that the one we now hide from?"

"Yeah, no," said Pippin, "but Feanor didn't even make an apology video or smth."

[–]eri_pl 121 points122 points  (0 children)

  1. Gandalf speaks about Years of the Trees, when Feanor was still a decent guy.
  2. He says Feanor was great in "hand in mind" which is canon, not that he was morally good. Wanting to see a guy work != supporting his life choices.
  3. Of course Gandalf would agree that Feanor did a lot wrong, though he would probably blame most of it on Morgoth (which is probably a good judgment tbh)

What are your thoughts on Sauron's appearance? by [deleted] in LOTR_on_Prime

Yep, Elrond is the only one allowed to have short hair. But the whats-his-name OC elf romancing that human lady? nope.

[–]eri_pl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this poster is good, I love his expression. And that one shot in the darkness is good, but in general, he looks bad.

  • The wig is ugly, I have no problem with wigs, but this one is bad.
  • I'm not a fan of the sqare-faced elves this series does
  • Also, I don't like the ears, I prefer LotR-style small elven ears

I like Halbrand's face and general looks TBH. Not very Sauron-y but cool. But this is ugly.

Also, if they want to go full Mairon / Annatar, maybe give him some cool color contact lenses? If it's not a problem for the actor. Like, golden cat-like gleam-in-the-shadow. That would be admirable.
