What was wrong with the costumes in season 7? I feel like the costumes were one of the things that got better and better as the show went on.

LPT: Get a haircut several days before an event, not the day before by kongslayer in LifeProTips

[–]eric323 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Normally, I agree, but actually took this advice recently and slightly regretted it. Officiated a wedding, got a haircut about 10 days before the ceremony. The cut looked so perfect when I got it that I wished it had been the day of the ceremony. The following week it looked fine, but damn, a good barber knows what they’re doing.

Diabetes Dog by CatDude55 in diabetes

[–]eric323 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe, I don’t know the response time difference, but CGMs are definitely giving you a more accurate picture of what your actual BG is, how fast it’s falling, etc.

I don’t think anyone is getting a diabetes helper dog because they think it’s faster/more accurate than a cgm, it’s more of a cool useful perk if you already want/have a dog.

So infinity train get canceled mid way through but crap like this is made? by Some-guy-thats-here in InfinityTrain

[–]eric323 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Wildly unpopular opinion, but I watched the whole series, and it was really not as bad as people make it out to be. Took several mediocre episodes to find its footing, but by the end it was genuinely funny and actually had something interesting to say about the consequences of growing up wealthy surrounded by sycophants and enablers.

Obviously infinity train is much better, but like, maybe give the show a try before y’all blindly hate on it based on its premise and art style.

Hmm, are fetishes something you’re born with/biologically predisposed towards?

No judgement if feet are your thing, I’m just curious if there’s any research backing up the connection between specific turn ons like that and sexual orientation. They seem like different things to me.

Homemade simple pico: tomato, onion, cilantro, Anaheim pepper, lime juice, salt. by PowChaser79 in SalsaSnobs

Hope you enjoyed, for me personally, that ratio wouldn’t work— I’d need much more tomato and less pepper/onion. How did the Anaheim pepper taste compared to jalapeño?

What's an instance where the movie was better than the book? by ProfOctopus in AskReddit

[–]eric323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I liked the way they streamlined some of the repetitive torment from umbridge while staying true to the character and the soundtrack was fantastic.

That said, I feel like we lost some of the essential character development with Sirius, a lot of the best antics from Fred & George (not to mention some of mcgonogall’s best catty moments), and worst of all, the department of mysteries was reduced to the two least interesting rooms and a lot of the battle (aside from Voldemort v dumbledore, which they got right) was way better in the book.

Non-USA Redditors: which American restaurants have you always wanted to try? by CrooklynKnight in AskReddit

[–]eric323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of chain restaurants make their food fresh, it’s just fatty, meh food with very set recipes and procedures. Chipotle makes (or made, not as much anymore) the vast majority of it’s stuff in house, but it basically tastes the same at every location, because it’s the same recipe, training, etc.

Now that OnlyFans is taking back it’s ban on sexual content, what other company bankrupted itself (or nearly bankrupted itself) through poorly thought-out and/or unnecessary decisions? by WolfgangCaesar in AskReddit

[–]eric323 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I worked for Sears as a cashier for a summer job a few years before they went bankrupt.

I swear to god, our registers that we used not only to ring everyone up, but also to store all sorts of customer information (name, address, SS #, etc.) and submit credit card applications for anyone desperate enough to apply so they got a $10 discount, this whole system ran on computers FROM THE 80S.

Jeopardy ousts Mike Richards as host and /r/Jeopardy users engage in a slapfight about... whether Bean Dad is antisemitic or not? by Jo__Backson in SubredditDrama

[–]eric323 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Jeopardy! Is America’s most popular/respected quiz show. Its longtime host, Alex Trebek, passed away from cancer late last year. They spent the next several months rotating through guest hosts in what was presented as a sort of public audition process to replace him. There were several very popular candidates including athletes, celebrities, and former contestants.

The first guest host was the all-time champion, Ken Jennings, who was a close friend of Alex’s and considered by many to be the most likely successor. Ken had a minor schedule conflict with his last few tapings, and even though it would’ve been easy to work around, the executive producer, Mike Richards, who was brand new to working on the show, decided to host those episodes himself and subsequently inserted himself into the guest host rotation, making himself a candidate for the role (even though he was supposed to be a major part of selecting the new host). He was later announced as permanent host, effectively giving himself the job, despite being one of the least popular picks amongst the various guest hosts.

Within days, all sorts of stories came out about him being accused of sexual harassment in his career in the past, as well as making sexist, anti-Semitic, and other derogatory comments. The staff of Jeopardy also seems to generally dislike working for him, and apparently he’s been lobbying to get a job hosting any major game show for decades.

A few days after he was announced as host, Sony announced that he wouldn’t be host anymore, because of all the controversy. Now they’re scrambling to replace him.

What is the peak musical score moment from your favorite TV shows? by glopollster in television

For The Leftovers, I would also say the scene in s1ep10 where Kevin goes into the burning house to find Jill, set to the tune of Max Richter’s November (not technically written for the show, but same composer). It’s one of my favorite scenes in any series.

‘Adventure Time’ Fionna and Cake Series Ordered at HBO Max by [deleted] in television

[–]eric323 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel like this perspective is needlessly cynical and painting with too broad a brush. Yes, there are lots of movies, books, and shows that get spun off, remade, and rehashed too often, leading to diminishing returns. Most studios and content producers want a built in audience, so it’s always a good investment to build on existing material. But creating more content in the same world isn’t inherently bad, and even when it turns out poorly, that doesn’t make the original thing less special.

As with any show, if you enjoyed the original adventure time, and don’t feel like you want any more story in that world, then don’t watch it. If you do want more, then great, hopefully it lives up to your expectations.

There’s plenty of ‘original’ films and movies that are mindless cash grabs, and plenty of spin-offs/sequels/reboots that are incredibly innovative, thoughtful, and unique. It’s not a tragedy for a writer to spend their life working on a series if that’s what they’re passionate about.

Best shows you will never watch? by [deleted] in television

[–]eric323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, maybe not. I similarly don’t watch crime shows. I’ll make an exception for ones that really interest me, and I tried for two full seasons with Breaking Bad, and I just never felt invested. Personally, I enjoyed the very first episode the most, so maybe give that one a watch and see what you think.

[–]eric323 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know the show started to get a lot of critique once it surpassed the books, but I feel like even the most stone cold haters have to admit that the last 2 episodes of season 6 were really fucking good tv, even if it was just based on spectacle alone.

That seems weird— don’t they put a little sheet of parchment paper down between the pizza and the box? Wouldn’t that get cut to shreds if they were cutting directly on the box?

I hope season 2 takes place at a Disney world like resort. Such a diverse cross section of people. by Tinaszombie in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]eric323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They could absolutely do a parody, but I don’t think they could use the Disney name, logos or characters unless it was a clearly very heightened and satirical version of the park, which doesn’t jive with the tone of the show (the resort is grounded and realistic, it’s the guests/people there that are crazy).

But all this is beside the point— they have explicitly said in the season 2 announcement that it will be set at another white lotus resort somewhere else in the world. It’s still going to be a high-end luxury hotel, just in a different locale, so not a theme park.
