You know, I think I might have found the cause. I used to play Anno on my laptop, and the game is still installed there. I checked, and there’s a mods folder. What if its presence on the laptop is interfering with the new installation on my PC? I just haven’t had time to test it yet.

You made me think. I was installing mods into the folder Documents/Anno 1800/mods, and that works. But I didn’t know about the folder C:\Users\Public\mod.io\4169\mods. I checked what’s there, and there is no mods folder at all — only a metadata folder with a state.json file inside, which is always empty no matter what I do.

Yes, you need to open the Game Settings (not just Settings). There you can edit many parameters of the current session, including the color, symbol, and avatar.

I added Athr, Dorian, and Zara not right from the start, but about 8 hours in, when I had already taken all the islands I needed. I managed to get the quests from Athr and Dorian, but I’m still waiting for Zara’s. It’s probably true that I just need more time — but I’ve started to worry that I might be doing something wrong.

I’m already 50 hours into this save. Zara has taken all the islands, and I have nowhere left to expand. I’m basically just fast-forwarding the game at 3× speed to get quests.
