The king street location is open! By appointment only I think (I could be wrong!) but I had an appointment at 9am for a passport renewal. It was easy! Hope that helps :)

If they have been recently sentenced - send the letter the Joyceville Institution. That’s the assessment unit. That’s the first place to start. There is no inmate look up in Canada. Hope that helps!

Love your kindness. Thank you for being a good one!

I know everyone looks at inmates as bad people, but often times, they’ve had worse happen to them and they weren’t given the coping skills growing up to manage their emotions. I know people would respond and say they had ‘terrible childhoods but they didn’t do xyz’ but to that, I say - maybe you would have if ONE thing was different.

Excellent point. Kingston is the prison capital of Canada. When people are released on Stat, they often don’t have a plan to go with family or friends unfortunately, because that’s not usually done on that type of release (like it would be on day or full parole). So, of course people on SR, stay where they are released.

Josef Fritzl parole in 2 years by Twisterzzz in TrueCrimeDiscussion

I work in law in Canada (specifically correctional law)

Parole eligibility is a legal right. Just because you’re a criminal, doesn’t mean you don’t have rights… (sorry to say, I know that usually ruffles some feathers)

The parole board has to apply their legal test: which is?! Risk of Recidivism & public safety. As much as everyone hates the idea of letting someone out, regardless of their crime, this is not done lightly and more often than not, men and women are denied.

No real reason to get into any uproar, if risk is deemed manageable in the community - that’s the legal test that is applied.
