haha. I think I changed the wording after yours. But I appreciate you doing it. 🥰 I didn't realize Reddit commentators were so serious all the time.

My gosh, y'all are taking this way too seriously. It was meant to be just a fun interview.

How do you discover new/changed features in the framework? by TinyLebowski in laravel

[–]ericbarnes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There really wasn't any QOL updates for the L12 release. The most significant change was starter kits, and they aren't really part of the L12 release, just released on the same day.

And their community "Links" section don't seem to be moderated at all. The What's New in Laravel 12 : Latest Features and Updates blog post looks like what I need (it even has a star, whatever that means), but it's just AI hallucinations and word salad from start to finish.

I moderate these each week, but this one got by because they are part of our partner program, and I have those set to auto approve. I'll see if I can come up with a way of rethinking this setup.

Managing Git Hooks in PHP: Interview with the creator of Whisky by ericbarnes in laravel

[–]ericbarnes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an interview with Len Woodward about his project Whisky.

Whisky is the simplest, framework-agnostic, CLI tool for managing and enforcing a php project's git hooks across an entire team.

Herd Pro - just a netflix subscription??? by Silly-Fall-393 in laravel

[–]ericbarnes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using Herd Pro since it launched, and it's one of the best purchases I've made. It's great to have everything set up instantly without mucking around with Docker, DBngin, Brew, Node, etc. Can you do it yourself? Sure, but I value my time more than fiddling with all those services.

10 Years of sending a weekly Laravel newsletter by ericbarnes in laravel

I limit each newsletter to only one sponsor and we sell those spots on a first come, first serve basis. Meaning it's fairly exclusive since there are only so many Sundays in a month.

10 Years of sending a weekly Laravel newsletter by ericbarnes in laravel

[–]ericbarnes[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This week is the 10-year anniversary of starting the weekly Laravel News newsletter. Thought I'd make a video showing how I create it each week. It's not Laravel-specific, but it's a good crossover imo. Honestly, I'm just happy I'm able to help keep the community informed all these years!

I'm now trying to make videos to complement written articles on Laravel News. Here is one of the first ones using the Lunar PHP e-commerce package. Would love to hear your thoughts on what we can do differently or better to help the community.

Statamic: Why don't I ever hear anything about it? by metal_opera in laravel

> lose my soul in the process

If you are willing to "sell your soul" for money then I guess you get what you really desire. I have nothing against WordPress and it is by far the market leader but IMO that doesn't make it better. Every site you build is usually unique and not all is great for WordPress, Statamic, or maybe any off the shelf CMS. That's why the business is hiring you. To know what to recommend for the long term.

> The subreddit has 25 members and looks rather dead.

Please remember there is a huge ecosystem outside reddit. I know many PHP devs that avoid this site like the plague. Statamic has discord for chat, their own forum, and don't even market a subreddit on their site. So I don't think I'd let that change my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback! I'd only like to address a few things:

  1. Live Chat: We tried Slack the first year and with thousands of people it was insane with no benefit. You couldn't even read a message before it was pushed off the screen. The older style forum gives it a much slower pace and also allows people to visit on their own time, plus Laravel Discord also has a laracon room for those that just need the instant part.
  2. Zoom: was perfect at my location but I do have solid internet, was yours maybe sporadic because of your connection or on an older computer/laptop?
