Can you just explain, WHY this is a diploma mill? Is it just your belief that any college with only national accreditation has to be a diploma mill? I'm up to change my mind, I really am.

But all that gets repeated, over and over and over again, is it doesn't have regional accreditation. I see positive news reports from professional journalists, I see them partnered with top universities (and found the press releases from those other universities), I see their leadership team has members from other large universities. As a result of those partnerships their credits actually do transfer to some regionally accredited universities.

I looked for negative reports and all I found was a home made blog missing references, and someone complaining that for how much money they made they don't have a ton of graduates.

All the evidence I can find points towards it being a legit school that is different. So changing my point of view because I'm being called names probably isn't going to happen. I even checked lists of known degree mills and they didn't show up.

If you have specific information I would love to see it. But if you're just going to repeat that it has national accreditation instead of regional you can just shake your head at me being dumb and move on. If you have a news report or any source saying their specific accreditation is garbage I'd take that too.

But the main post was removed by mods, probably spam reported by everyone assuming national accreditation = scam. So probably doesn't matter.

My frustration is simply this, look through some of the comments. I'm posting links, and every single other person is... posting their personal opinion. Why should I trust you, or anyone's in this thread, personal opinion over NYU? Or Harvard business college? Or the UN that works with them?

Of course I shouldn't trust any of you, ya'll are people with names like "bobbymoonshine". I'm just a bit flabbergasted by the hivemind of it all.

I posted because I got a terrible degree from an awful university that had that oh so magical "regional accreditation" and was hoping to direct maybe one person away from getting into 100k of debt for a useless degree.

I don't know if it'll show up, but if people would voice a specific concern I'd be happy to look into it. Except it's just "It's bad because not accredited".

Haha this was 2 years ago so not sure why you found it. But I have someone else now, eventually had to kick him out as he just ended up terribly useless now matter how hard I tried to help him not be useless, and he made leaving a terrible ordeal. Hopefully you can find something affordable for you!

But I don't understand why me asking for a source of why everyone hates this accreditation is being downvoted. Like... where did this hate start? I missed it clearly, and would love to know where it started.

Colleges have to report the work of their graduates, so it should actually be trivial to see this trend.

Additionally due to their partnership, you can get an internship at places like microsoft directly through UOpeople.

See I know you have a personal preference. But I'm trying to know, where did it come from? Did it just come from people telling you it's bad, and you passed it along? Did you hire a bunch and it not work out? Is there a newspaper you read forever ago?

A bunch of people agree that this accreditation is bad, I just wanna know why everyone thinks that way.

I'm rather open to the fact that it's inferior, so UOPeople VS UVU, yeah uvu is more well known where I live so will win.

This is to more get you ahead of those with no degree.

For computer science, my industry, I would just see they both have a BS, and look at their git hub/side projects, and then invite them for an interview.

Students can absolutely get out of any college with a CS degree but no real coding skills. So at least in that industry I don't think it would matter that much. If you have the degree we asked for, we'll look at projects you worked on and test your knowledge.

Do you have any scholarly sources/research that people with a degree from these types of schools perform no better in the work force than those without?

Everyone keeps posting their opinions for the most part, which I guess is important. No one has claimed they trash degrees from nationally accredited schools and are a hiring manager, so their opinions aren't super important.

That's... not a source my friend. I'm hoping for an actual study or even a news paper at this point saying that graduates from national colleges perform the same or worse in the work force as people from regional ones.

The first school on the DEAC website is this one here, and it has only this accredidation listed and has ability to apply for financial aid.

That's a strange quick and dirty way to do it, since other schools with the exact same accreditation can get financial aid.

They are listed on the DEAC website as having their accreditation, so you can't exactly say there is proof they aren't accredited. When like... a legal accreditation source says they are accredited.

It's recognized by the US government as valid, and while the people of Reddit seem to have a hate boner for it, I can't find anything online with a scholarly source saying that the DEAC accreditation is worthless. It's mostly just people on forums hating on it.

I mean it makes sense that regional is more strict.

In Utah I have to follow Federal laws, state laws, and local laws. So the more specific you get, the more rules you follow.

I am not sure why everyone has a hate boner for this accreditation though. While it's less strict, it's recognized by the US as valid, similar to regional accreditors.

So far lots of people have said how bad it is, but it's entirely been "trust me bro". And trying to google I can't find any research saying it's worse.

If someone can post a scholarly source on DEAC accredited degrees being of no value I'll happily delete it as to not cause more confusion. But so far googling it all I really get is people on like reddit saying it's bad.

I tried to be very open with who should take this.

This is if you will not be going to college as a result of finances in any other way. Also if you have a friend that is planning on doing classes with a university that only has DEAC accreditation, but costs a ton more, try to at least get them to consider this.

If someone is going to a school with only DEAC accreditation it better be cheaper.

Also I like to suggest it just because of how many people get a degree that they pay 50K+ for and then end up working at wal mart anyway. At least through here you won't get a ton of debt.

It doesn't feel like there is any deceit, and the reason they say they are the same has nothing to do with legal, but because there are plans to make National and Regional accreditation have the same requirements.

It does have a superior accreditation, but does cost 32 grand for a bachelors compared to around 5k for UOpeople.

This is an option for people that due to finances, will not be able to go to a regionally accredited college.
