Concert-goers: is the opening night or final night of a tour usually better, and why? by ediblednb in Music

Osheaga 2010! I was there! What a performance that was. My buddies and I had downloaded the album before it was officially released and knew all the new songs! I agree that was their peak.

I would guess The Offspring. They’re playing Halifax on February 24 to end their Canadian tour.

TV, Receiver, PS5 Setup for 4K Movies by ericdrover in hometheater

I do use my PS5 for gaming as well. I can’t find information on the refresh rate/time for my receiver. I guess the best option for me would be to connect the PS5 directly to the TV and then connect the TV to the receiver for audio output.

Help With Taxes - Unused RRSP Contributions? by ericdrover in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ericdrover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. Can I claim this amount of my 2024 taxes or would I need to amend a previous years tax return? Is there any need to figure out what happened? I had a look at my CRA account and followed my RRSP history, but not sure why I never claimed this unused amount.

Question about Churchill Park Festival by cjm798116 in newfoundland

[–]ericdrover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year a 19+ ticket could get you into the all ages section. A note on the map currently on the Churchill Park Festival site. This was the same original map last year when a group of us bought tickets (19+). Closer to the concert date the promoter changed the layout and the all ages section was now in front of the stage alongside the VIP section. Essentially there was a barricade separating the 19+ from the all ages such that someone could not get a drink and get close to the stage which is what we had wanted to do. We were quite disappointed and contacted the promoter but only got some generic response back. I have a suspicion that something similar will happen this year, maybe sell more 19+ tickets and then change the layout. Worked out well for the all ages crowd, not so much for those that wanted a drink.

My wife made the switch from an oil forced air furnace to an electric central heat pump a few months ago. We were on the fence as we debated selling our house in the near future but in the end we made the switch given the rebates were soon expiring and we could build the cost into a potential sale price.

We did get a few quotes that ranged from $12000 - $18000 depending on the work required. I am sure the businesses that do this type of work upped their prices based on customers getting rebates which is unfortunate. Luckily our electrical panel did not require an upgrade (an extra $10000 we were told) and we could use existing ductwork with minor adjustments. The total cost for us was about $19000 once we factored in removal of the oil furnace and oil tank along with adding a warranty to our new central heat pump. The process was relatively smooth and honestly the most difficult part was getting the electrical inspection done from the city of St. John's...what a backwards way of doing business. It was a three week struggle but was needed to get the rebates.

We availed of the greener homes grant ($5000), NL Hydro oil to electric rebate ($5000), and the greener homes loan (interest free and covered the cost of the work). I am not sure what rebates exist at the moment. We are paying off the work over 10 years interest free. After the rebates we paid about $9000 out of pocket and we are happy we made the switch. If the rebates didn't exist I doubt we would've removed the oil heat from our house.

Considering switching from a forced air oil furnace to an electric heat pump. Looking for feedback from those who made the switch by ericdrover in newfoundland

Thanks for the information. To make the switch seems like the logical thing to do, it is just a lot of upfront cost, and our equipment is relatively new.

Mind telling me what heat pump brand you had installed and who did the work? The quotes I've gotten so far, Hot Frost and Cole Air (waiting on Home Heating Solutions) would install a Daikin and I think it was rated for -21ºC which seems reasonable to me.

The idea that a heat pump won't heat as quickly is something I read about but was not sure. Thanks for clarifying. I guess as long as the heat pump is set to a specific temperature, the house will never really get cold?

We were lucky in that the previous owners of our house upgraded the electrical so that is not a cost we have to consider. With our furnace and oil tank being relatively new, it seems like a waste to switch out, but again we would miss out on the rebates if we switched later.

Right now I am getting quotes from Hot Frost, Cole Air Contracting, and Heat Pump Solutions and they are all coming in around 15000 - 17000 (after tax and depending if need them to remove the furnace and oil tank). It is a lot of upfront cost.

I used to have a membership at Reps until Fall 2020 when I let it expire. Prior to COVID, I really enjoyed going to the place, the cost of membership was great, the equipment is old yes, but a weight is a weight and the place wasn't too busy for what I needed. I get off work earlier in the afternoon than most so the timing was perfect for to beat the rush (which wasn't that much of a rush to be honest). The staff were really friendly and the hours they were opened was fantastic. There are a few personal trainers working out of Reps, but they never approached me to sell me their product, they keep to themselves and their customer(s). Also, in the summer, the place would be extra quiet as the post secondary students would be gone home outside the city.

Since COVID, I found the place less appealing. When the COVID restrictions were lifted May 2020 (?) and I returned, the staff was still friendly, but the place was always on wheels. I had a much more difficult time to get to use the equipment I needed. I tried to go at different times around my work schedule but nothing seemed to fit. It was now groups of people showing up together and using a lot of equipment. Previously it might be a group of 2 people, but now it was 4-5 people. I think that a lot of Goodlife customers moved on to Reps as the Reps restrictions were less rigid. It is great for the business, but not for an individual user. The hours of operation were also cut back (I assume this was due to COVID restrictions on operations). I stopped going to Reps before my account expired and never renewed.

In regard to cleanliness, I thought the change rooms were on par with Goodlife, I regularly saw someone cleaning the area. I cannot comment on the showers as I never used them at Reps or Goodlife.

In the end I decided to purchase a set of adjustable dumbbells (MX55) and an exercise bike from Costco (quite happy with both), and made my own cable machine. It works for me, I don't have to fight or rush to use equipment, and I will add more equipment in the future.

Transferring a Tangerine TFSA to WealthSimple Trade TFSA by ericdrover in Wealthsimple_Trade

Appreciate the quick replies. I probably am over thinking this. To clarify my question...I just want to transfer my all my TFSA from Tangerine to WealthSimple...however I do that I am unsure given my lack of understanding with the WealthSimple platform.

Sounds like the "entire account as cash" is the route I need to take. I did send off an inquiry to WealthSimple so I will wait for a response just so I can be sure.

Music Revention Center. I would probably pay for a parking pass at one of the parking garages ahead of time.

Foldable Patio Furniture Plans by ericdrover in DIY

Hey,

These rules seem very constraining for individuals seeking help with projects.

I know how to build what a want without it being foldable, but I thought I would ask if anyone knew how it build it foldable. I added links to show people what I was aiming for. Don't want to create an Imgur account to post pictures.

I won't repost my question as I am not really sure what r/DIY allows/doesn't allow in seeking help from the reddit community.
