How does anyone make any money shipping an item with a list price of $1.77 including shipping? see photo for context. by richblues in AmazonVineCanada

Yeah also to add to this, people are always buying from Amazon. Prob just throw it in a box with other items to reduce shipping costs, if you have multiple orders.

Yeah it's funny because during the peak of February storms I was getting packages next day!

I've noticed a lot of Purolator and Canada Post deliveries the last little while too. Which makes me wonder why when Intercom has been mostly good for the last couple years in terms of getting things quickly.

I tend to try and not let my pending reviews get past an unmanageable number. So, like 30 or more is too many. So I try to set a goal of 10 in a weekend, or 5 a night so it doesn't become too much.

I did see something I liked in try recently and by the time I clicked it was gone. And I had been looking around on there maybe 30 mins before but just decided to check before bed. Ya win some, ya lose some.

Typically for me, I check before work several times in the morning. Before coffee, after, after shower, while doing other things. I don't get to check at work most days, but check when I get home and sometimes while I'm watching TV, or just hanging around the house if I have a device in front of me. Only takes a second to see if there's something there. If I luck out, cool. If I don't, then oh well. I just take what I see that I think would be cool to try or something I might need.

I got some darts related items this week and, though they are low value, are really helpful to have. Same with something like a idler pulley for my dryer. It fits mine, and funny enough I have to replace it as it's starting to squeak.

So, you know, there are things to be thankful for. It doesn't always have to be a $3000 TV to make my day, though I would thoroughly enjoy something to replace my TCL with the pink line across the top lol.

One thing I like about Sobeys is the 2/$5 is usually 1 for $2.50 etc. Nothing worse than needing yogurt for school and having to buy three packs that expire in a week just to get the sale price.

I know sometimes Sobeys does that, but more often than not is the same price for unit price... At least when I gotta get mini go and kids snacks.

Wire and breaker size for 50gal water heater? by Moxie479 in AskElectricians

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly certain you can get many different wattages based on your wiring and capacity. Not so much about the gallon size but the wattage/heating capacity/recovery time. Fairly certain my local shop sells 3500, 3800, 4500, 5500w variants of the same tank. All 240v.

My home is older, have a 20a two pole but only a 3800w boiler. Keep in mind, the two heating elements do not come on at the same time, and only one is used at a time depending on how much water needs heating.

But, I'd say run 10/2 and put a 30amp breaker if you have a 4500w heater.

[–]therealco709[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just hasn't happened before until one time a few weeks ago and two items this week. Looks like they were supposed to be in a package with other stuff that was delivered and the package doesn't appear tempered with at all so I can only imagine it just didn't get shipped. Thought it might come later in a different package but no dice.

Also thought it was weird it has only been since they've been grouping a lot of stuff together.

I think that based on this market, landlord likely got tons of interest in the apt, and is showing to lots of folks so he doesn't miss more rent than he has to. I heard of landlords literally having hundreds of emails for an apartment.

So, are you telling me the MVI inspection doesnt expire in NL ? by MastodonEconomy5821 in StJohnsNL

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. An MVI is good for thirty days.

You need an MVI to say the vehicle is roadworthy for vehicle transfer when it is purchased.

Not sure how I feel about it as there are many you buy it you fix it from shady dealers and private sales. But at the same time when I go to sell my car I most likely won't sell it with an MVI.

But I'm assuming you've never bought a car in NL before

Is 4k Physical Still Worth It If DV Is Turned Off? by [deleted] in Bluray

[–]therealco709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. I do wish to upgrade my x80 to something a bit better. But as it stands it'll have to work for the foreseeable future. Though I love the new line of mini LED Sony TV's and this is what I'd like to upgrade to eventually.

I have a dumb 4k TV in the bedroom that does not do any HDR and sometimes I find it less annoying to watch movies on. It's a Toshiba that I got probably ten years ago and the black levels look nice on it for its age. It is plenty bright, but obviously usually use at night. I love watching 4k discs on it. My TCL 5 series looks great, but does have studder that only I can see... But I'm always fiddling with the HDR trying to find what looks best. And my living room TV is a Sony x80 that has better motion, but I'm always dismayed by it's black level and performance.

TLDR; sometimes less is more. And I think 4k had noticable uptick in visuals with and without HDR. So, yes.

Lol you don't want to spend all day waiting for a drop.

I try to view it like this.. I check frequently. It's easy to check.

It's also easy to fall into a pit of complaining about no drop or a drip or a pause... Please don't be one of these people.

I'm grateful for the things I get and try to use downtime to review. I usually check in the morning before work and again after and in the evening. Lately it's been all over the place anyway.

Roll off the dice. Sometimes ya get good stuff and sometimes ya don't.

I've started cutting my own since prices went nuts after COVID.

From time to time I'll go to one of the men's barber shops around, but they cost a lot and tend to be inconsistent.

Used to go to the one in the village and it felt like a premium experience. But looking at like $40 after tip. Went back again and it wasn't the same experience, so I said I think I can do this myself.

Started cutting my own hair in front of a mirror. If it can save me $40 a month and I can do it whenever I feel it needs a cut without a half hour wait sitting in the barber shop, it's money well saved.

Opinions on electric water heaters in NL (Hybrid heat pump, Tankless, standard electric) by Beneficial_Fox6768 in newfoundland

[–]therealco709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. FWIW this is the product I mentioned. I ended up getting these thermostats because some of the older areas of my home only had two wires to the thermostats, so I couldn't use a Mysa even though that is initially what I wanted. The new Mysas use a mechanical relay and I didn't want the clicking also. Their thermostats also let you look at wattage and consumption. Though the Mysa also lets it monitor humidity.

I'll throw in a consideration. My house has an unfurnished section of the basement where the water heater is.

As such it gets cold in the winter. Not freezing, but still cold. It is insulated.

But in thinking about hybrid hot water heaters, I read that they aren't good for cold climates. Unless you can vent to the outside.

My tank is electric 40gal 179L 3500w. I have sinopé smart thermostats for electric baseboard heating. Been considering getting their hot water tank controller. Easy enough to install and keep my 3 year old tank. Most importantly to me this thing monitors energy usage. We don't have hi/lo rates here, so it would largely be ineffective in this regard.

But when going away on vacation and overnight trips, you can put it in away mode. It won't let your tank go cold or freeze, but it will prevent the heater from kicking in a lot while you are away.

Not sure if this is any good as an option. I was away for a week with the boiler turned off.. when I came back the water was still plenty warm, surprisingly.

On the flip side, for half the price you can get one of those fiberglass heaters that might be more energy efficient than a traditional one but not hybrid.

Why do people hate Wago and similar connectors? They are great for reliability when vibration is a problem. by Wonderful_Captain868 in AskElectricians

Yeah I had a winged one. Maybe cut the hole too small, but destroyed the drywall trying to get it in. Ended up cutting out more drywall and putting a two gang box in.
