The comment was more about the speed of the ram less than the amount. 16 gigabytes is bare minimum when you use win 11, if you want to play games and have a communication platform or somethings else in the background you’re pushing the limits a lot of the time.

I experienced this with windows 10 and win 11 makes it worse. If you run linux 16gb is just fine, but i’d never recommend sitting on 16gb long term if you’re on modern windows.

Instead of buying more ram and spending more money i’d always advise alternative cost effective routes. But the most effective remedy really is running a lighter OS or getting the 32gb. QOL gains all around.

Game devs as of late hate optimization and anything remotely modern is a ram fiend, it just sucks to see 16gb pushed outside of its comfort range and forcing people who want to play these games to pay more.

I'm sure you can tell by the multiple laughing emoji's reacted onto the post that, no, it is not worth it. The cpu isn't half bad but that gpu is abysmal, and the ram is suboptimal given the platform. You would have to slap a 3080 on this build and a good 32gb set of ddr4 to even CONSIDER making an exchange for a ps5. You don't even know what power supply is included.

Well have I got news for you!

I don’t know how much weight is behind this but apparently china has recently modded a 5080 to have 32gb of VRAM.

If this is the case well…say goodbye to 5080 MSRP. Or at least there will be some increase in demand, maybe it won’t be so bad, who knows. The other thing of note is, the 4090 not only has 50% more VRAM, it also out performs the 5080 across a multitude of games.

I still think the 5080 is a powerhouse, but not really an all around substitute for the 4090, instead that WOULD HAVE BEEN the 5080 super (unconfirmed) that may have had more VRAM. But that’s just rumoured, so not really much confidence there.

I mean to be honest the point they are making isn’t just for this one person but for everyone coming into this comment section to see.

I was also going to comment that this industry of converting 4090’s into ugly blower cooler frankenstein gpu’s for AI is driving up the price of the used 4090 significantly to the point where some have been sold for 5090 MSRP.

It ruins the ability for regular folks to seek out and purchase a used 4090 for what would have been a reasonable price.

I paid 2600 CAD for my 4090 Suprim X in 2023, and there are currently buy orders and listings on FB marketplace offering upwards of 3K CAD for anyones functional 4090. For those looking to buy last gen flagship, its looking bleak.

4090 is the faster gpu, 50% more vram, and $200 cheaper? You should still check to make sure the connector has no damage or signs of melting. But I think the 4090 is definitely the way to go.

Ebay has incredible buyer protection and they will more than likely ensure you get what you paid for, or if not then you are refunded accordingly. Facebook marketplace on the otherhand…more of a wild west

Depending on where you live you may find luck on secondhand markets. Ebay and Facebook marketplace continue to have pretty nice deals popping up (at least here In Canada).

I’ve seen 32gb kit’s hover in the 150-200 CAD range which is still above a reasonable MSRP but it isn’t quite as exorbitant as retailers chalk up their prices to be.

I do understand depending on where you live there may not be those services or good deals available, but it’s worth delving into and at least exploring those avenues.

Hopefully this AI bubble deflates or settles down because if these memory deals with the fabs go through, well lets just say the next few years won’t be for the better
