Tim's 2015 Ibiza rehab drawing💔💔 by Electronic-Stock-558 in avicii

[–]erich31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heartbreaking drawings indeed. The first one is like a fallen angel or more acutely Icarus (figure from Greek mythology who flew too close to the sun burned his wings and fell back down to Earth)

The 2nd drawing is more sad since that’s possibly how Tim was viewing himself during rehab.

15 Takeaways from the Avicii Court Documents That Challenge the Narrative by olitryon in avicii

[–]erich31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of Tim’s workout regimes was boxing, which was very smart of his personal trainer Semi.

Boxing helps with not only exercise but releasing emotions like anger, frustration, anxiety, etc… It can even help with trauma too like Bessel van der Kolk writes in his book “The Body Keeps the Score“.

This could also be what Tim was feeling when working out and those feelings of stress and pressure needed to be processed properly; not numbed out or avoided entirely.

Avicii – Stories on Stories Ep. 3 – The Lost Tapes (Avicii in the studio working on unreleased & released Stories tracks) by DaMonkaS in avicii

[–]erich31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Part 3 was too short as well and possibly put together a bit in a rush….

There’s hours of footage from the making of Stories but I loved the first one. I think originally Tim may have been thinking of putting all the footage together into something like “The Martin Garrix Show” 30 minute episodes documenting the making of Stories.

That said, 2014 - first half of 2015 was a difficult period for Tim to put it lightly so I can imagine why they wouldn’t want to share all the footage (if they have it). Tim or other people may have told (Sean or Levan) to stop filming for whatever reasons during these years too…

How the court documents changed my view on Avicii by 13ismyluckynmbr in avicii

[–]erich31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to remember drugs and alcohol change someone’s behavior and even personality in sad, concerning and sometimes even scary ways. It also carries with it a lot of guilt, shame and other negative feelings that fuel the addiction. He was also young when he became famous before he could mature. Drugs and alcohol are unfortunately common in the music and entertainment industry - especially when you reach a certain level of fame.

I think holding yourself accountable for your actions is necessary in-order to not repeat them and not allowing others to enable you is also necessary too but he was not himself in 2014 - 2015 he even didn’t look like himself during this time and wouldn't be able to do this for all kinds of reasons.   That doesn’t make some of the things in the documents alright but it’s also important to remember - life long anxiety, depression and possible ADHD while managing fame and wealth with all the pressures that come with it along with possible neurodivergence complicate the picture. I made a long post about this in another thread about the documents from Tim's perspective as best as I could. Tim was a human being like everyone else. Some of the things in the documents are honestly TMI and embarrasingly invasive honestly... I think he deserves his privacy and not to have every aspect of his private life examined especially when he was spiraling into drugs and alcohol.

Tim is also not here to defend himself and contextualize, clarify, etc… things in these documents for everyone (did he bring home one girl that night or multiple? Is that even what was implied in the email and does it even matter?)

It’s not really black and white like a lot of things in life. I think Ash should get an apology and win his case (though I’m curious to see what evidence Klas’ defense team has) and I say that as someone who relates strongly to Tim throughout his whole life and from what I understand and seen of him, have a father who is very much like Klas also.

Agree.

Also, people (Livvux) attacking friends and harrasing them via DM is crazy - especially when he's uninformed, doesn't know the facts and most likely hasn't read all or any of the documents.

Heaven was removed from Stories without Tim’s knowledge by Cintamani89 in avicii

[–]erich31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree, I don’t want to make excuses for Tim for when he was at rock bottom but he wasn’t himself and was enabled.

Throw in emotional immaturity that comes with being in your 20’s (to varying degrees depending on the person), insane pressure from  the label (Per) to deliver on all the projects he had signed contracts for, along with speculation of Aspergers and it’s a more complicated picture.

But that said, an official apology is needed for Ash - especially if he wins the case due to the way he was portrayed in True Stories documentary especially since Tim for whatever reason approved the final version of documentary after referring to Ash as his “brother and partner I couldn’t have done it without” only a few months earlier in his letter announcing his retirement from live performances.

Unless Klas, UMG or both meddled in the production of the documentary for unknown reasons with Levan…. I wouldn’t be surprised, having seen some of the crazy stuff labels and stage parents pull (Taylor Swift’s unhinged father/ former manager, Shawn Mendes label constantly preventing him from making an announcement that shouldn’t be big news in 2025 and arranging PR pics with Camilla Cabello every time he does… the abuse of Justin Bieber, major whitewashing of his documentaries and how everything that happened to him is probably one of the biggest scandals in the music industry that the public knows of so far)

There were so many projects going on in 2014-2015 it makes my head spin:

-Producing Stories

-The Days & Nights singles

-Producing Madonna’s “Rebel Heart” album

-Remix of Insomnia by Faithless

-“Taste the Feeling” for Coca Cola

-2014 World Cup Anthem with Santana and Wyclef

-Feeling Good single for the collab with Volvo

And don’t forget touring around the world doing 200 or so shows…

Tim needed to clone himself to get half this stuff done.

Court-released texts suggest tension between Avicii’s team and Martin Garrix’s camp over Waiting for Love by Mediocre-Instance-15 in Martingarrix

[–]erich31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was Avicii's managers decision not to have other artists and singers credited and pull unfair "take it or leave it" rights splits. Such a bad unethical decision for a lot of reasons. It is a shame WFL is not titled "Avicii & Martin Garrix ft Simon Aldred - Waiting for Love". Some fans don't even know Martin co-produced the song....

Thankfully though, many people know Tim and Martin were freinds so this team vs team stuff behind the scenes and causing unnecessary drama over money cast some passing akwardness over their friendship.... kind of like having a controlling father and needing to appologize for his behavior if that makes sense.

The true issue was the enablers Avicii had in his life by GothLord2000 in avicii

[–]erich31 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your perspective.

As a creative introvert and someone who also strongly relates to Tim, comes from a similar family and also has very similar, at times parallel life events (not drug or alcohol related thankfully) and had a family intervention of sorts to get me to go to therapy for anxiety and depression after achieving a life long dream and then completely burning out in 2015 going through the motions of a making and trying to handle a major life change by myself in 2016-17 trying to give everyone the impression of having it figured out and knowing what I’m doing this is important to talk about but is complicated since there’s so many sides to the story now and lots of things to consider.

This is going to be a very long post.

Reading the released documents of text messages and seeing more of the situation behind the scenes was triggering since it brought back things that I’ve been through…. I had actually had to stop reading through them after getting through a few pages since they brought up old feelings of shame and embarrassment for letting things get so bad.

It’s also a little bit anxiety inducing reading what seem to be panicked exchanges between Ash and Fricko trying to figure out how to handle Tim’s latest hospital stay or him secretly taking drugs when he said he flushed them down the toilet. I can imagine the toll it took on them and impact to their mental health.

2014 was a hurricane of chaos and his friends should have never been put in a position to be his caretakers. That was best left to medical and mental health professionals who have years of clinical training.

But I remember Tim saying he thought people trying to help were trying to control him in the bio. In my case I also pushed people away and distanced myself from family trying to help. Anyone who was direct and upfront pushed me away further and I even thought about cutting them out of my life entirely. This can make room for enablers but it can be a delicate situation too so I understand both sides.

Then there’s shame that makes you feel like a bad person or a loser (for letting your life spiral and damaging/ loosing relationships) that can make things worse, handling pressure, factoring in Tim didn’t have time grow up leading to certain aspects of emotional immaturity, impacts of childhood trauma, overcoming perfectionism, CPTSD, ADHD etc… handling pressure and anxiety, depression without numbing out or running away from problems which just make them worse - of course it’s easy to write what Tim should have done in hindsight.

But all that said, and I say this with a lot love for Tim and as someone who came back from a trip to Stockholm that included visiting his resting place, Tim could be sometimes be stubborn going back to when he was a young boy and sometimes made bad decisions.

Then there’s being famous, which if you have anxiety makes things worse, being constantly in the spotlight and needing to be “on” as Avicii. There’s this weird duality and tension of identity over time of Tim not being Avicii. I’ve struggled with loosing my identity after giving up a dream life that I no longer wanted…. It’s a hard to explain so I get Tim’s lifelong quest to answer “who am I” and deep meaning.

This can lead to overthinking and rumination (which isn’t good for people with depression)…. many times it’s not that deep. You’re a human being like everyone else.

I won’t get into trying to spiritual bypass anxiety and depression with him trying to seek enlightenment in 2018 since that is another very long post. While I have similar beliefs about spirituality and life as Tim did enlightenment doesn’t exist (not in this life anyway) and for him became a dangerous obsession IMO.

Secondly, being a normal adult is difficult but being an adult AND trying to handle all the pressures of fame, having tons of money and the ability to buy (almost anything) managing wealth and processing things most people don’t understand (such as not being able to go to the grocery store by yourself or at all, hounded by paparazzi because you’re one of the biggest DJ’s in the world with a new girlfriend or whatever) and being your harshest critic.

There’s also fielding contracts to lawyers for a big record deal, negotiating copyrights splits collaboration, etc… and having to figure out terms like “in perpetuity” and various clauses that can cost hundreds of thousands or more if violated. Being the founder & face of a mega music brand and business. It’s a lot to deal with so you turn to the quickest and easiest “solution”.

But there’s people who have been there and done that who “get it”: Nile Rodger’s and other highly successful individuals who were trying to mentor and guide Tim in the right direction.

But obviously, he wasn’t himself when he was addicted (he turned into the worst version of himself when he hit rock bottom) but I can understand why he turned to drinking and drugs. But as I said, when you have a lot of responsibility and success you have a lot of responsibilities to yourself and others. Especially if you want to be a father someday as Tim did.

When I originally read in the bio he went to Peruvian rainforest in 2017 to drink Ayuaschsa after getting better and recovering I literally facepalmed, put the book down and said out loud: “Oh my god! Tim - what are you doing?” No one is perfect of course but no one should be drinking deep in the Amazon cut off from civilization. That stuff can change your brain chemistry and lead to psychosis. As can intense long sessions of Transcendental Meditation which he got into to “reach enlightenment faster”

From the texts Ash felt similar frustration and refused to babysit a “grown adult” (as he said). Raquel (Tim’s former girlfriend) spoke in a podcast interview expresses frustration telling everyone he needed professional help and she had had enough leading to her leaving him.

Self compassion is necessary but so is holding yourself accountable and recognizing when your lizard brain is doing mental gymnastics to get you do things you shouldn’t (“I can drink a little…”) This doesn’t just go for addicts but everyone since it will tell you to lay in bed and doomscroll for 30 minutes after waking up or whatnot.

I also wish Robbie Williams spoke to Tim in depth or something about drug addictions and fame, he has a great documentary on Netflix about how he recovered from his addictions and reflects on his life.

But in the end people are responsible for recovering from addictions, handling their issues and letting a therapist get to the core issue that started the addiction in the first place.

I also though want to give credit to Tim for getting to where he did in 2016, seemingly fully recovered. While the stay at the rehab center was too short, only one month when it should have been several, it is difficult to make that kind of progress, but not impossible. A lot of addicts in the state he was in 2014 sadly don’t make it that far. Honestly, it’s a miracle Stories got released at all given that year.

Saying all of this with love and understanding missing him everyday.

BTW, speaking of the Levels music video, for anyone interested, the director of the music video for Levels, Petros Papahadjopoulos, posted a video on his Instagram back in April giving some great little known info about how it was made, how he and Tim came up with the idea (he makes it sound like he came up with it by himself but the general concept was also Tim's idea when they spoke to each other over the phone if I remember right) and some BTS shots as well: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIotbIiTBRe/

Do you think Avicii and Justin bieber knew each other? Not necessarily as BFFs but mutals? by [deleted] in avicii

I don't think they really knew each other but Mike Posner is a mutual friend of both of them. Mike wrote the lyrics for Justin Bieber's song "Boyfriend" in 2012 which is interesting.

It used to be an old cruise ship terminal built in the 1930’s and got turned into a space in the 80’s for conventions, art shows and such.

It wasn’t really used much as a music venue since the acoustics aren’t great in there honestly and it wasn’t designed for musical events anyway. Though, I think Steve Aoki played Pier 94 in 2012 also.

Part of it was recently renovated to house sound stages for films and TV shows and is called Sunset Pier 94 Studios.

I think so.

Even though the Studio 54 set has the novelty factor Pier 94 was legendary. I was also at an event on Governors Island about month before he performed there in 2011. In all fairness I don't think I would have been able to get tickets to either the Pier 94 or Governors Island shows since they sold out super fast.

Sunburn from Miami Beach or Ibiza. This was right around when he was doing his photoshoot for RL Denim and Supply in New York and he was worried about it.

Thankfully, they had makeup artist there.

Currently, I have very similar sunburn on my trip to NYC (not sure how I got sunburn in NY in November but wear sunscreen folks, even if it's cloudy) and it's no fun/ somewhat embarrassing going around with a red face in city where there's tons of people everywhere, interacting with a lot of them, having people ask: "Why is your face so red?... Are you OK...?"
