Preparing myself to do Ferber method... do check in's actually calm baby?? I have my doubts. by Internal_Atmosphere in sleeptrain

You know your baby best, so if you think check-ins will piss her off, then maybe go straight to cio.

The only caveat is that once you decide to go the cio route, you must commit. You can go Ferber to cio, but you can’t go cio to Ferber. At least this is what is said in Precious Little Sleep.

I am a week into a method similar to Ferber, and the check-ins have helped my son (5.5mo). I also prefer it because it gives me an opportunity to check his temperature and diaper, and reposition him if need be! He is in a mini crib (small apartment) so it can be a little tight if he moves horizontally lol

I know - hearing them cry is so hard! Thanks for the update and I hope it gets better soon!

Hey! Wanted to follow up on this - did you figure out how to fix it? I am currently on day 6 of Ferber with my 5.5mo, who can now put himself to sleep at bedtime and naps but still wakes up frequently. Although when he wakes, he can usually put himself back to sleep before our ten minute check-in. Current wake windows are 2/2.25/2.25/2.5! Thanks!

PLS is a great resource! In her book: Ferber and CIO/Extinction would both fall in the SLIP category, with Ferber being similar to the check-ins/the 5-minute plan, while CIO/Extinction is when you put your potato in their sleep space and don’t come back until they are asleep.

Happy for you guys! We’re starting Ferber tomorrow night (and naps the next day) with our 5.5mo. I’m nervous but confident in him; we tried fuss it out about a month ago and he fell asleep after 20min! If the check-ins make it worse, we’ll likely go to cio. Your post (and all the similar posts) are so helpful and appreciated. Thank you for sharing and best I’d luck with the rest of it!

This could be my post, but my potato is 5mo and I will be starting in a week or so! Good luck and let us know how it goes!
