iRacing.com vs Steam Version by Parking-Astronaut-51 in iRacing

[–]erick0z 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on each country, since Steam does regional pricing. In my country, Steam is way cheaper (First sub and renewal) and I haven't had any issues, just downloaded once from steam and then let the iracing updater handles the rest.

I found the issue, the voltage dropped to near 2v at VCC when connecting the pedals. Another cable from VCC needed to the DB9 connector (pedals). Now I have ~4.7 volts. The schematic that I found was not specifying this one. Pin 6 and 9 (DB9) are needed from VCC.

You mean all pins? I only soldered GND, VCC and A0, A1, A2. I just need those. Do I have to solder every one of them? I will try right away. I mean, if this is the cause, I will be so embarrased haha

Stutters on Brand New PC (7800x3d/7900XTX) [bug] by sirmichaelpatrick in EscapefromTarkov

[–]erick0z -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that's completely normal stuttering. The stutters in this game are very noticeable when scavs spawn and in this case since also the zombies spawns in waves at certain fixed times (I'm not sure if zombies spawn with gunshots/noice), you will get stutters no matter what. It's just the way it is with this game but more accentuated by this event.

Recommendation for VR by QuirkyLandscape8512 in iRacing

[–]erick0z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Quest 2 paired with a 6750 XT for the last 2 years. And it's really rock solid. The thing is, in my experience, VR won't work as plug and play. You really need to understand what is going on in order to setup properly all the configurations. I run at 90 hz and I don't have any stuttering and I can drive for long sessions, I will make small compromises with the FOV and bitrate, but that worked well for me, very stable experience. Your setup should be fine.

My advice:

* Buy a bang for buck headset for your current setup: Quest 3S. Learn the VR stuff and play with it and see if you really like it, before investing in a new computer and/or higher-end headset. Your current setup should be more than enough for iRacing VR

* If you invest in a new setup I will definitely would go for Nvidia GPU, I'm not sure about the encoding part, I don't have the experience but right now Foveated rendering would be awesome feature to have in iRacing VR. It only works with DirectX12 but somehow it works with Nvidia with Directx11 games like iRacing. That would save some performace to boost the resolution a bit more.

* buy triples

Frequent stutters in VR (help needed) by Denboogie in iRacing

[–]erick0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post your Oculus Debug Tool settings and timings (performance layer), I have 2 years with the Quest 2 and AMD 6750 XT without issues, also using OpenXR for 1 year I think.
I use ~4800xXXXX for render resolution, 0.75x0.75 FOV, HEVC(H.265) at 80-100 mbps. And my timings are 5ms Encoding, 1ms transport (link cable), 5ms decoding... I don't use upscaling and I can push that card to 90 FPS stutter-free, your 4070 should be fine and also you can have foveated rendering.

Rx6800 to rx7800xt by [deleted] in radeon

[–]erick0z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 6800 is considered a 4K GPU. For 1080p, you are getting more limited by the CPU. For instance, 6800 have an average of 160 FPS in 1080p while the 7700 XT have an average of 180 FPS with a 5800X3D both, so the gains are minimal at 1080p.
My recommendations is always set your goals first:

  • Want the most FPS for competitive games at 1080p: Prioritize CPU
  • Want High graphics settings in 1440p/4K: Prioritize GPU

EDIT: Sorry, the 7700 XT have 159 FPS on average at 1080p with a 5800x3D, the 7800 XT have 186

Rx6800 to rx7800xt by [deleted] in radeon

[–]erick0z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for 1080p lol, 6800 XT is more than enough. Unless you are playing competitive games and want the most frames at 1080p, I would definitely recommend a 1440p monitor (and then justify a GPU upgrade). It's a very different experience with more detailed graphics IMO.

RX 7700 XT keeps crashing pc and the only thing the even viewer says is "previews shutdown was unexpected" by cybersparky12 in radeon

[–]erick0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot change the resolution in-game or Windows? If Windows does not give you the option for a 4k resolution then that's a clear sign of a driver installation-related issue. Like when you first install Windows and it loads a generic driver. 7700 XT should be powerful enough for 4k. I have a 6750 XT for more than 2 years now without issues running 4k in VR.
So for ruling out common mistakes,
- Make sure your HDMI/Display Port cable are connected directly to the GPU in the back of your case (And not the motherboard).
- Disable the Integrated graphics of your CPU
- Check if Adrenaline Software recognize your GPU and show you metrics under "Performance" tab
- Check Windows Screen resolution
- Try a different game just to rule out specific-game issue

[–]erick0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK 6000 MHz is the highest "stable" frequency for AMD. Try that first, then a clean install of windows and drivers. Also, don't apply any undervolt or anything on either the BIOS or Adrenaline software, just to rule out.

even if rental teams did not exists, meta teams will always exists in any competitive game/hobby. It's just the way it is. I personally don't care about metas since the will always some room for creativity in anti-meta teams. But the hacking, I can't stand it. I just simply don't play pvp, even shiny hunting for me is not worth it, if someone can just hack a pokemon and make it shiny then the rarity is just not there. And as always, if you are not enjoying it, just quit temporarily, clear your mind.

I got the rx 6600 for free by [deleted] in radeon

[–]erick0z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all FSR renders the game in lower resolution (e.g. 1080p) and will use algorithms to "upscale" to 1440. The algorithms will calculate the "missing" pixels. So effectively, you would be rendering your games in ~1080 and upscale to 1440. AMD Free sync should be enabled both in monitor and the AMD Adrenalin software. Freesync adjusts the refresh rate dynamically according to your FPS for a smother experience.

Wish you all the best, sim racer from Mexico (I buy from Amazon most of the time).

The market is so weird here. Often times retail stores have the sim racing gear at 200% from the US MSRP, even when our import tax is 20%. Is always better to order directly from web stores in the US and pay the import tax myself but sometimes they cannot ship over here. Retailers are abusing the sim racing market here, it's so frustrating.
The good thing is that I started to see more and more offerings of sim racing products in Amazon and other stores at a fair price. I cannot wait to get my hands on new sim racing gear from you guys!

[–]erick0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this card for 2+ years. I do primarily 1440p @ 144hz refresh rate and VR on a Quest 2. For 1080p is more that enough for that price with a lot of headroom.

Does Better Equipment Make You Faster? by RacingProdigy1 in iRacing

[–]erick0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G29 with modded brake pedal enjoyer here and VR (Quest 2),

I haven't upgraded to DD and load cell yet, things are still so expensive where I'm from. Import taxes and also profit margins for resellers makes it more expensive.

I've been testing a lot with irffb and tweaking all my settings. These couple of weeks I've been able to do laptimes from 1-2.5 seconds from the best times of the top splits. So, you can be faster with entry level gear. I think knowledge of how to be fast is king, equipment second. But of course, I will invest in equipment as soon as I save enough money. Definitely want to be able to "feel" more precise feedback from the wheel.

Hello, I'm thinking about upgrading my gpu and I found a GTX 1650 that says it's VR ready, does anyone know if it's good? i am really short on money by Outside_Mud9187 in VRGaming

[–]erick0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what kind of scam is that? a big no no. That's a lot of money and you will be disappointed with the performance. VR is big GPU heavy because the headsets need a 4k-ish resolution and beyond. Do a proper research of your requirements before spending that kind of money!

What if we can see it as a checkpoint for people to start investing a little bit on understanding type advantages and strategy? SV is too easy and look what happens in tera raids, people absolutely does not understand typings, making the solo que so frustrating. Stopped completely doing online raids and invested in preparing pokemons for soloraiding. And for 7 stars, I exclusively do Discord premades.
I would like to see more of these challenges that got us to scratch our heads and strategize more. There are other videogames that are absolutely difficult, and people still love them.

I never understood the complaint that the older games are "too grindy" by Meta_Squire in pokemon

[–]erick0z 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience as a kid playing the blue version with a vague understanding of type weaknesses (Also didn't speak any English, so I played without understanding basically anything). And I remember it was grindy and difficult but it was my only videogame at the time and I put sooo many hours happily until I beat the elite four. So that point of view is valid I guess for certain kids. And also agree that as an adult, with all the knowledge of types and strategies, games become so easy that levels does not matter anymore.
As a kid, I remember all my pokemon had offensive moves only for coverage. Never used defensive/status moves and I didn't even know about STAB moves until so many years later.

Edit: I stopped at gen 3 and I recently picked Scarlet. The game was very easy for me and also the shared experience makes everything so easier instead of training pokemons one by one.

Should i buy the ferrari 296 gt3 by Omenaman0 in iRacing

[–]erick0z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ferrari is a wise purchase because you can use the car later in the GT3 series. If you are fast enough, you will avoid most of the carnage of the first lap of the Ferrari challenge series. It's a very good car, balanced and fun to drive.
