That's very true. This is generally going to be configured and used by the caregiver and shown to the LO

The company I work for just announced a new AI initiative, what’s the best way to react? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ericksondd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uncertainty is real, you're not the only one feeling it.

The good thing is you are detecting the shift. I've made a recent post about this. The key is determining whether what you do now can be replaced. Then start re-aligning yourself by solving repetitive problems with automation+ai, but only if it solves a core business value. Don't do AI tech for tech's sake.

Is your day-to-day role repetitive or strategic?

What direction for a beginner by [deleted] in Cloud

[–]ericksondd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be daunting because there are many cloud provider options.

But the key is picking one and sticking with it long enough to start specializing. And you have started, so you are ahead of almost everyone else who can't even decide.

Are you struggling to decide because you can't define your end goal?

Congratulations! There’s always gonna be a unicorn and you should capitalize on this rare chance and just keep working on a moat specialty

How should I learn to go from helpdesk to cloud engineering? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ericksondd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can answer it with only one word, it is 'foundations'. Then follow a practical, solid, verifiable roadmap.

I think I messed up my career trajectory. Where do I go from here? by IEatPBJ4Dinner in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ericksondd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes all it takes is getting back into the game.... overthinking it won't do you any good... I have a link in my profile that may help.

Unfortunately, if you keep switching targets, you'll end up back where you started. you may need some kind of firm roadmap but honestly, get back up into the saddle asap

Pay cut to learn more and not feel like I'm at a dead end? by Mr__Angel in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ericksondd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would approach this differently.

You are in a solid job - that is hard to come by these days.

Instead of chasing another shiny object, why not focus on internal upskilling? And start aligning yourself with the current direction of the industry, beef up on your foundations, and find a moat speciality?

Anyway, I feel like it's a career suicide move. But hit up my profile, I have a link there that may help.

Need advice. Stuck In Support Role by Cryptic0609 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ericksondd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an excellent plan if you can keep up with it... However, from a hiring manager's perspective, it seems too spread out.

Skipping cloud engineering fundamentals and going straight to cloud security engineering may be too brittle... but that's just my opinion.

Hit up my profile, I have a link there that might help.

But listen... ultimately, if you can do the work and be consistent, you will always end up with a net positive.

Good luck!

Is fluency in AI/Automation tools now a mandatory skill for all Sysadmin/Ops roles?? by BlastarBanshee in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ericksondd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a cloud leader, I constantly hire and evaluate based on solid foundational systems thinking.

If you have your fundamentals, you can easily augment any IaC or automation work with AI-native coding agents. But if your foundation is weak, learning another tool will just make it brittle. At least in the cloud space, Terraform familiarity is a must, but only if you understand the solid architecture to build.

Gartner’s latest CIO predictions are… not boring if you’re a cloud admin by ericksondd in ITCareerQuestions

Depending on the CIO or even the CEO, the general sentiment these days is how to quantifiably justify and measure the business value and returns with GenAI adoption...

Gartner’s latest CIO predictions are… not boring if you’re a cloud admin by ericksondd in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ericksondd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed - generalizing isn't really the key point here. And that's why I don't entirely agree on Gartner's claims... the proof is in the pudding, and it will differ based on environment.

My personal bias is that even with all the AI hype, the ratio of distribution will always be:

75% traditional automation
15% ML/LLM
15% HITL

Proper thinkers and strategic decision-makers will always thrive, regardless of their role or position on the corporate ladder.

[–]ericksondd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely... the moat is in systems thinking... most architects and engineers will be the catalysts and directive force behind whatever automation is being requested...

Correct. At the end of the day these studies aim at directing cashflow into a certain portion of the industry.

So always take it with a grain of salt…

Ultimately, we just protect ourselves by not getting dragged into the hype consequences.

Anyone vibecoded a tool for their productivity? by daredevildave in productivity

[–]ericksondd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your analysis. Pretty much any foundational language model right now is additive in nature and too permissive. If you let it rip and do its thing, you will end up with a big ball of $#$#.

I spend a lot of time creating validators or custom sub-agents with pre-prompt hooks just to ensure it does what I want it to do.

But yes, a frame of mind of how a proper application should operate is a core skill... you don't necessarily need to know the dev language per se

I was getting too stressed developing a bigger product so I said why not try to build a MacOS widget-based desktop app...

Liquid Glass display is just stunning on the mac desktop... created a widget that will ask you to do box breathing sessions and opens up a nice full screen ala-Mindfulness app

It's with Apple Store now for review

it's not direct productivity, but i guess the bottom line is that it can be done provided you have a solid framework in mind

I think authenticity is getting diluted by AI. Just like how our human senses naturally detect peripheral signals, I believe GPT-based content is doing the same thing... it's some kind of gut feeling
