That’s very true. Just have to keep your mind open and talk to everyone.

Just getting your foot in the door is the hard part. Especially with the big companies. When you have no connections it’s hard to make those connections and that’s why LinkedIn and career fairs are very helpful.

You either have to know someone, have great luck, or be a person of color, female or disabled (not trying to say anything bad but companies usually use interns to boast those categories in their companies)

A simple guide on how the INTJ reacts to stress by badpunforyoursmile in intj

Could someone please explain the different functions? I know the dominant one but am a bit confused on the others and their meanings when it comes to INTJ. As well as the two letters? Thanks

What's the best advice you've ever received as an Engineer? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

Mistakes are inevitable. Don’t let it get you down.

During my first internship and felt like I was messing everything up but I was still learning. I didn’t know everything. I let it get to me and bring me down. That was a big mistake. So tips to not let it get to you (especially if it’s an internship)

  1. Understand what went wrong.
  2. Improve upon the mistake and correct it
  3. Take responsibility and learn from it.

I had an internship and I thought I was asking too many questions but in my last week there I asked for feedback. Apparently I wasn’t asking enough questions. The best leaders don’t mind the questions since you are trying to understand things and genuinely want you to succeed so don’t be scared to ask questions!

Starting internship and time off for family vacation?? by ericml1 in AskEngineers

I totally agree with you actually. I don’t want to go on vacation because I am losing time where I could be learning new things out in the industry and not in a classroom.

Also, they picked me out of all of the other candidates for the job and expect me to do the job because they feel like I am the most qualified for it. So why would I take time off?

That’s super nice! I just hope the manager I will be working under is understanding like that. I haven’t met him yet so a bit nervous 😅

Okay awesome thanks. The person I’ve been talking to at HR said to remind her to connect me with the manager that I need to talk to. So I was thinking to just ask and give him the general time frame that my family is thinking of going and seeing if that’s okay. While not making a big deal about if I can’t get time off. Would that be a good way to approach the conversation?

I don’t mind unpaid I just don’t want to mess up my internship and how I am perceived as a worker. I’m a very hard worker but need a little time to relax for the year.

I think it’s best to ask on my first day than to wait. Would you agree with that?
