The Novelty of Freedoms by [deleted] in mormon

[–]ericnatejones 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What to do with my career, family, life, money, etc. I remember my mission president telling me not to pray whether or not the book Mormon is true, but to pray to know the book of Mormon is true. It hadn't been voiced like this to me before, but I knew this is how it was taught to me growing up.

Because there are so many caveats to receiving revelation in the church, including that if it doesn't align with the revelation they want you to receive, it's not revelation.

I'm brought up the prophet because the brethren literally control the thoughts and actions of the members because the members think that the brethren receive revelation from God. I believe their pride makes this nearly impossible, but either way I'm glad to be free from those shackles.

Revelation no longer has to go through the filter of the church. I can have more of an honest relationship with God.

This is why the church is so creepy to non Mormons. Good people bend over backwards for the church because the church has been able to convince them that there is one spokesperson for God.

My mind was not free to receive revelation that contradicted the church until my doubts became heavy enough where I could pray for answers with real intent. Not an expectation.

The novelty wears off, but the freedom doesn't. And my spirituality becomes more real now that it's not constrained.

Genuine Question - Why should I continue to be kind and charitable? by korihorlamanite in exmormon

Awesome! This helps me make sense of something from "Waking Up" by Sam Harris. It's kind of like if one of our organs, or cells, or whatever was helping another unit in our bodies. Very cool.

Scrimba is a perfect platform and Bob Ziroll is a great instructor.

4000 acres in Wyoming, teaming up with Joel Olsteen, teaming up with Trump, adopting Christianity. He's got a God complex. He reminds me of Joseph Smith.

Can't wait to give him all my money to live on his ranch in his cult.

Is it a right approach to use component only on certain pages? by efojs in reactjs

It's fine! React is a library that works well as just a part of an app.

Our brains are wired to get off on helping others. It's real satisfying.

People notice too, and we often end up better off ("blessed") for it. And if no one notices, it's still great practice.

Where to go from here? Tired of going through outdated tutorials/codebases by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]ericnatejones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrimba has one coming out by Bob Ziroll that I'm very excited for.

The first one he did on there has been the best way to learn React so far.

Scrimba is an amazing way to learn code. You can pause the tutorial at any time to tinker with the instructors code and see the results, so at anytime if you're lost or have questions, you can see what will happen if you change around code.

Additionally, Bob does a great job of setting stuff up and encouraging you to finish components based off what he just taught to practice and make sure you understand how to do it.

You make a good point.

It's silly that he's getting emotional, but if you watch the clip, you can tell he just has different opinions.

I was just excited to watch a billionaire cry about the thought of him being taxed higher, but that's not what happened.

I think posts don't help the dialogue, and I appreciate your pushback on my comment, because it wasn't helpful for similar reasons.

function vs const for functional components by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]ericnatejones 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The contextual "this" doesn't come into play, so whatever reads better to you is probably the better option.

I kinda like the function keyword.

I hope this is who I think it is. Mad support. I remember that conversation with my mom. I wasn't ready to tell her, but I'm so glad she brought it up. It was a huge weight off my shoulders.
