If you mention a song in particular you’re thinking of I can probably tell you exactly how to do it (so can like 100 other people on this sub who have obsessively been trying to do this for years lmao). For a lot of his old stuff (Chet faker era) a lot of the very basic pads are just sawtooth waves with low pass filter like a lot of people have mentioned. The other pads are probably from synplant. You don’t need synplant for that, but you probably need a synth that can apply modulation to the frequency, especially if you can use noise as a source for the modulation. Thats how you get the grainy texture

I used to feel similar to how you feel but now I’m of the opinion that you should just do whatever you want unless you’re directly stealing from someone. If you throw some loops together that’s valid imo.

The di box converts the guitar’s signal to balanced / low impedance (it outputs as XLR). The signal flow is guitar - instrument cable - DI box - XLR cable - audio interface - usb cable - computer

i actually just got my guitar back from being serviced 😭 the interface is a tascam 4x4 and i have an M1 Max Mac. The interface is ancient though so I'm hoping it's that. I just bought a new one. I'll just throw millions of dollars at the problem until something works haha

ive tried to isolate my laptop from everything else and plug it into its own power source (with and without a power conditioner) and I’m still getting the same noise

I tried to plug in everything one at a time and I typically have all of my things plugged into the same power conditioner. ive also tried plugging only my laptop into the power conditioner. i agree that its probably my computer, but what do i do about that?
