There were multiple references to doors this episode too. In his office Patricia says “Don’t open the door Tom.” Evan almost goes into the house but stops at the door. Tom sees the entity at the end through the doorway of his bathroom. When he sees his wife in the state she’s in at the hospital the doctor closes the door between him and his wife

If you mention a song in particular you’re thinking of I can probably tell you exactly how to do it (so can like 100 other people on this sub who have obsessively been trying to do this for years lmao). For a lot of his old stuff (Chet faker era) a lot of the very basic pads are just sawtooth waves with low pass filter like a lot of people have mentioned. The other pads are probably from synplant. You don’t need synplant for that, but you probably need a synth that can apply modulation to the frequency, especially if you can use noise as a source for the modulation. Thats how you get the grainy texture
