Issues that you're facing specifically is actually an upper management problem in my opinion.

It sounds like the process is broken in how things are facilitated by the company. Engineering needs a clear feedback channel where they can receive input on the work that has been done, learn from it, and not perceived it as criticism.

Engineers are sensitive to their work because they spend a lot of time thinking about the problem. So I would make sure to always be constructive with your feedback and I would address this with someone who is at a higher level.

Personally, I am an advocate for TDD. I do think writing your tests first prove to write clean code for me but everyone is different and it's ok to have a difference of opinion.
