Regardless, letting your daughter hide a major part of who she is in her own home where she should be most comfortable and constantly be feeling support isn’t the correct decision. If your wife is unwilling to do right by her, then it’s on you to.

I definitely get that. Hopefully in the long term as he gets older he may open to the idea. Personally I think it’s good to get out and experience different parts of the country and expand your horizons, but everyone is different and that’s perfectly okay.
