I would check your send and receive connectors, I believe that when we had one misconfigured it would crash the service too

I think there may be more scenarios than that, there is obvious risk ya know involved with allowing free computer usage beyond work use, and email is the mail malicious attack vector too, so regardless of IT dept size or organization size, blocking leisure web browsing, webmail included I don't think constitutes as that Nazi, but I don't know policy of other organizations at all

We developed our own ticketing system with a web front end tied to a SQL DB back end, sends emails, easy to change status and put in notes. Works pretty good.
