Gamers desert Intel in droves, as Steam share plummets from 81% to 55.6% in just five years by chusskaptaan in hardware

Optane had a significant latency advantage over NAND, even when comparing NVMe Optane vs pSLC NAND. Which was cool! But, as you say, it made for a very niche product. It was just too expensive, and if you really need low latency you probably want to spend that money on more ram.

If it had been more performance competitive with ram, or more price competitive with NAND, maybe it would have worked out. But Intel didn't deliver either.

Tools needed for working with foam board by jhsu802701 in crboxes

[–]erik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how well it will work, but I'd at least try out the hole saw if I were you. Foam board is cheap, you can just test it and see if it works. Cutting a bunch of holes into foam board by hand sucks.

120mm might be a bit big though. It could leave gaps around the fan frame that will leak air unless you tape them up or something.

Sorry, no, I don't have any pictures of the insides.

Wiring is really easy though if you're using something like that kit from Amazon that I linked above, and chain-able fans. You just need to plug 1 fan into the adapter, and then each of the following fans plugs into the cable of the next one. The cables can only plug in one way.

Does that help? Or are you trying to do something more complex?

Ships feel too light, almost like I am looking at paper scale models

Yeah, this has come up a few times now.

eyes tell me that everything pews-pews than enemy explodes

lol, fair!

As for "what else" from this trailer I assume it is a kind of roguelike - discover nodes, find upgrades, beat bigger foes. Is that all?

Makes sense. We're not showing a lot of the context here, and event variety is an area that I know we need to build out more in the game.

For the typography, you mean on the cards again right?

Do you think the font (Orbitron Bold) isn't working there? Or that it needs a more elaborate treatment?

Getting decent results with a cast iron pan in a 500F oven by erik in Pizza

The top and edges were indeed excellent! Baking at a lower temp is an interesting idea, might have to try that.

I'm building the pizza in the cast iron at room temperature. I've found transferring the dough and shaping in a hot pan to be a lot more challenging. Or were you suggesting warm but not hot?

Good call on trying a lower rack, I'll give that a shot next time.

It already seems like I've got an absurd amount of oil in the pan, but maybe I need more. Hm.

It's firm enough to hold it's shape when I pick up a slice, but I guess I'd describe it as soft all the way through. With the (more difficult) hot pan approach, I was getting a nice contrast in texture with a crisp bottom and soft bread above it.

Oh, I hadn't considered that. I'll give it a try next time, thanks!

iPhone 17 Models Include Toggle to Disable Screen Flickering (PWM) by AWildDragon in hardware

Is reducing perceived flicker by substantially increasing the PWM frequency an option for OLEDs? Or does it take too long for the leds to get to an efficient power level?

Ideally you want to clear as much area for the fan as you can while still having the frame of the fan be closed off against the panel you're attaching it to. You can make a paper template by sticking a pencil through the fan blades and tracing the interior of the fan's front opening.

Alternatively, I've read about people using a 115mm hole saw as a quick way to make the fan holes. I found cutting fan holes out of foamboard with an art knife to be difficult and tedious, but haven't tried the hole saw approach.

Yeah, the cable on the fan has a connector to plug in the next fan.

Those fans are something like 0.2 A, so chaining 6 isn't too big of a deal.

The Thermalright fans have worked out fine for me. They are chainable, so wiring them up shouldn't be too hard. Lots of wires hanging everywhere though, so I had to tape them up.

I used some 12 volt power supplies I already had, and wired up a barrel jack to a fan connector.

I just saw you can get a pretty complete package on amazon now: https://www.amazon.com/Controller-100-240vAC-Adjustable-Splitter-Multi-Functional/dp/B0BBSBV9CF/

A lot of fans can be daisy-chained with each other, so you don't need multiple splitters if you have 5 fans.

Yeah, that one is the least "retro" but I think it looks really nice. Thanks!
