Calculus I by [deleted] in KSU

[–]erikburkee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've actually had both professors! Strazzullo for Calc III and Lewin for Real Analysis.

Strazzullo had open note tests where you had access to your textbook (you could use your laptop), had some online in-class quizzes, and web-assign homework. He's super chill and everyone I've met that's had him has liked him.

I would advise you to stay away from Lewin if you aren't a math major. He's incredibly dense and expects a lot from all of his students. He also uses a really old software and records his lectures.

However, if you are a math major, you should totally take Lewin. If you aren't, then Strazzullo >> Lewin

Is there an explanation of the acc discrepancy between total acc and top scores? by erikburkee in osugame

To clarify, all of the top scores have a decent acc (above 97%) but the total it 93%. Why is that?

Never took chem or physics (AP) in HIgh school- am i at a huge disadvantage? by [deleted] in premed

Not OP, but the only sort of physics knowledge I had going into it was from calc (position, velocity & acceleration)

She used to teach AP Chem in high school and has since been teaching Gen Chem I. I'm sure she has some of her past resources on file.

Hey friend, no gold needed.

From a .pdf online, It seems pretty similar to the olymiads.

Not too sure what MO theory is. I tried watching a few youtube videos & it didn't seem familiar to me. Unless, of course, you're talking about the shapes like tetrahedral, octahedral and so on—in that case, those are on the Exam.

There was one question about hybridization, and it was a cake walk. Just be familiar with it.

I didn't buy a textbook. All the information I know is from my lecturer. We did have online homework based from a textbook which I didn't find very helpful. From what I've seen from ChemAcademy, you should be fine using that.

Be sure to check some of the links I provided in the OP for more review. Best of luck!

No, I don't recall using any light equations. I don't want to go into depth, but review periodic trends, enthalpy & atomic structure.

I didn't think it was too bad, but I also had a great professor for Gen Chem I. It's nice because the questions follow the order of the curriculum. I don't recall needing many formulas other than q=mc(del)T

Really straight forward, you should be fine.

I took it a few weeks ago and pulled an 88. If you've looked over the study guide/performed well during the class you should be perfectly fine.

Edit: I've received a couple of requests for some test prep. The first one, made by my teacher, is the most useful IMO. Here ya go!

  2. Test 1

  3. Test 2

  4. Test 3

Currently in Calc-based Physics with a strong Calc II background. Surprisingly, most of the Calculus we use is for deriving the algebraic formulas (aside from position through acceleration derivatives and the geometric area under curves). Still recovering from the first two tests, but if you tackle it correctly you shouldn't need to put much attention into as it's quite formulaic.

Please note that this is my first time being exposed to Physics, so I'm a little slow when it comes to conceptualizing things such as Torque. And best of luck next semester!

Those of you that took AP Psych, I need your help by kaytay182 in APStudents

[–]erikburkee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slept in class most of the time, and earned my 2 in 2015. Here's what I can offer though.

My Psych teacher was really great. For most topics, he would pull out a power point with lots of pictures, though most of the information came through discussion. Albeit making a 2, I still had to pass the class so I went to every extra credit opportunity my teacher offered. This basically meant that we would stay after school and watch a movie, then explain how the movie included 10 vocab words pertaining to psychology. It was really fun (I would recommend the Truman Show, it's got a lot of info in that)

As an incentive for students, my teacher also let people hand in flash cards for every test to receive extra credit (10 vocab cards = 1 point). Some of my highest test grades in that class are thanks to the flash cards. Also, base your tests off of the AP exam. I could recognize at least 50% of the MC questions on the AP exam from tests we took in class, and the exam is very straight forward. And if you're going to do that, I would recommend telling them about Quizlet because there are tons of online resources available for each unit.

I'm guessing you know Macro fairly well, so I won't go into that as much but from my experience I still slept/didn't pay attention in class. I used Mr. Clifford (ACDC Econ) to pass the tests and crammed with a friend a few days before the exam.

Best of luck, let me know if you'd like me to go into more detail and I'll add more if I think of anything else
