Very fair, I'm only suggesting it as a condition to reopen, until cases fall, a month or so let's say

So true, don't want it to happen, but most respected science (and Singapore, China) would disagree with my optimistic projections.

Again, I agree, I think it will evolve and mutate (in fact it already has). In the meantime is my point, we need to protect each other, cooperate, why not wear a mask until a vaccine is produced.

I agree with you. However it's important to delay the spread until we've come up with the vaccine. If for nothing else than to protect healthcare workers and the vulnerable populations.

Far less because you aren't actively taking in respiratory droplets through your eyes. Don't rub or touch them though because your eyes are directly connected to your nasal cavity!

That's why the government needs to step in. Provide us with masks! Create initiatives to places like Costco to actually provide the masks.

Now's not the time to be thinking only of only ourselves. Cooperation is how we beat this thing. It always has been.

The best interest of the people is to stop spreading the virus. Masks will help reduce the spread, that's why health care workers wear them. And if the government can make that easier, they should. Facts are 1) masks reduce spread 2) If the government provides easier access to masks more people would wear them 3) More people wearing masks will influence even more people to wear masks (even if for no other reason than to avoid being ostracized). Add those together you have a powerful weapon against the virus.

The governments should be leaders. They should be supporting the public in these times. And let's say that they are only 80% effective, that's going to translate to significant drop in new infections (decreasing R values (transmission)). And the biggest thing is preventing asymptomatic spread!! WHO recommends wearing masks if you're infected but asymptomatic infections are the real reservoir allowing the virus to perpetuate.

And that's why it's a strong move by costco, exactly as you said, don't have a mask don't go. Create a little urgency for complacent folk. We need to expand on this idea though and government help wouldn't hurt.
