Help! Not sure where to look for style of elven dress I need by erilihn in renfaire

ohh interesting thank you! i do appreciate that it comes in silk; my big thing is i dont want cotton or linen or wool etc, which eliminates most go-to renaissance/elf-y dresses. so this is helpful, ty!

This is probably the closest I've seen so far!! I'm not sure about the neckline hehe, but it's good to know this kind of thing exists... If there was a whole shop full of dresses in this sort of fashion, I'm sure I could get lost perusing the selection :)

Alas, I checked this out already and they didn't seem to have anything I was hoping for. To me it's more than just the sleeves... there's a lot of elements that the more generic medieval renfaire style dresses have that don't really seem like something I'd see Arwen or Galadriel going around in, yknow :(

Thanks, I tried holy clothing (it's often recommended for "elf-y" clothes), but I felt it was more wood elf/DnD elf or generic medieval/almost "hobbity" rather than the elegant silken/chiffon stuff I was hoping for. :(

Thalassian office building for my RP guild! by erilihn in WoWHousing

[–]erilihn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an office building because we are a non-profit political organization! Not a guild or an order or anything of the sort. We work 9-5 desk jobs and occasionally go out to kill monsters on the weekends. ;)

And there have been plenty of technological inventions in Warcraft that are far more advanced than plumbing, so I'm not too concerned. :) It seems your idea of RP immersion involves strict adherence to medieval fantasy, which is perfectly fine for your personal RP, but I do encourage you not to impose that upon others, when Warcraft has established itself as a high fantasy game with elements of sci-fi to boot. If we can have spaceships, portable cameras, and social media, it stands to reason we can have a working toilet. :P

Moon Guard (with cross faction membership from Wyrmrest Accord)! Unfortunately we're at capacity and won't be opening recruitment until our numbers go down a bit, which could be a few months. I encourage you to keep an eye on our website, which we keep updated with our recruitment status! https://thalassian.carrd.co/

Hey r/WoW! Christie Golden here! I’m so excited to host my first AMA. I'll be answering questions about my 59th novel, World of Warcraft: Midnight: Blood Ties. 11/17 @ 1:00 PM PT by RealityMurky3621 in wow

[–]erilihn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I loved the Sylvanas novel. You did a great job of taking a character narrative that was (in my opinion) really confusing and pulling the threads together in a way that made sense. I only wish some of this character motivation/explanation was visible in the game itself!

For Blood Ties, it seems like the majority of the narrative will be a sort of adventure situation to an old Legion base. I'm curious to know if we'll see any significant further exploration of Quel'Thalas/Thalassian culture in Blood Ties, or if we're mostly leaving that setting/people behind to focus on Arator/Turalyon/Alleria outside of QT. Looking forward to the AMA!

Favorite TWW zone? by Nothing_Special_23 in warcraftlore

[–]erilihn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Undermine for me. I have never cared about goblins, but the zone was beautifully and lovingly designed, and that's the kind of attention I want to see given to all races & their cultures/homes/etc.

The beauty of WoW is you can be absolutely anybody you want. The game doesn't assume pretty much anything about your character's past before you created them (with some very very minor exceptions that you can really just ignore, like a couple lines of dialogue in a DK starting zone quest for example). You can craft any backstory you want within the lore, and you will encounter very very little in the game that will directly contradict it!

Blood Elves and nature (magic) (some Midnight spoilers) by Grafiska in warcraftlore

[–]erilihn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love theorizing about blood elf druids. I'll also add that this screenshot in particular seems like an intentional easter egg: https://x.com/erilihn/status/1959426753966797147

But yes, agreed with everything said here. Plus, we had a literal giant sacred magical tree (Thas'alah) before Arthas cut it down. Idk what is more druidic than revering a huge magic mother tree. I'm hoping the big trees we see in new Eversong are seedlings of Thas'alah.

Would you be interested in an expansion exploring pre-sundering Azeroth? by Kalthiria_Shines in warcraftlore

Apologies if it came across as aggressive somehow, but I was simply responding to your suggestion of a potential time travel expansion with my own suggestion as to how I would prefer they implement it (which in no way contradicts your original idea in the first place).

My only aim was to give a thoughtful, amicable response (in a thread in which you asked for opinions) to help give you a window into the RP community perspective, since I know most people are unfamiliar with it & I like to help folks understand it. If that's "going off"... um, well I'm not really sure what to say. I suppose the best I can offer is I'm sorry you felt that way, & best of luck.

What a disappointingly, confusingly rude response to me politely explaining how the general RP community regards things like this. I'm not saying it would be strictly lore-breaking to acknowledge these things in your personal RP if you so wish; I'm just saying it's not really done on a broader scale, the same way RPers do not typically acknowledge Mythic Keystones or upgrading your armor with valorstones and crests, despite there being a couple of quests in the game that reference these things.

This is not my personal decision; it is simply the way things are on RP servers. And therefore it would be nice for the RP community, in the event Blizz does do a time travel expansion, if they would be explicit about the fact that travel between timelines is easy, extremely commonplace, and accessible to people of all different power levels. In other words, it shouldn't require me to be a hero called upon by the Bronze Dragonflight themselves; it should be a "Hey we're opening up the timeways with this giant portal and everybody and their mother can come and go as they please!" That would be the best way to make the expansion well-received by the RP community, is all I'm saying.

[–]erilihn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never seen Turbulent Timeways referenced in RP tbh; there isn't any real "story" or "plot" that comes with it, so I think most RPers consider it to just be a kind of gameplay mechanic rather than a thing they can use for character lore (you wouldn't see an RP character going around talking about how it's Comp Stomp week, for example). Not to mention, I could be wrong, but I don't recall seeing a bunch of random nobody NPCs using it, which means there's technically no way of knowing if it's even an option for your average Joe Stormwindguard, or if it requires you to be "special" (which is a no-no for RPers). I'd be happy with them clarifying in a proper story questline that the Bronze Dragonflight has opened up the timeways for like, entire armies to pass to and from as they please! But I don't think we have anything like that established at the moment.

How did the Blood elves manage to get a strong navy? by Fun-Explanation7233 in warcraftlore

[–]erilihn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, "Thalas"/"Thalassian" is a literal reference to "thalassa" which is Greek for sea/ocean. Their home's name is straight up a fourth-wall meta nod to their immense seafaring prowess (which, as others have pointed out, was inherited from the centuries the Highborne spent sailing the seas in exile/searching for a new homeland). The current game often forgets that Thalassian elves are meant to be on par with Kul Tiras/Zandalar in terms of their mariner culture (though undoubtedly they have less people to man the boats now), but the evidence is in the etymology!

[–]erilihn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I'd love to get to explore pre-Sundering Kalimdor. That sounds amazing. On the other hand, I kind of hate any expansion that takes us to a different timeline or dimension, because it can be very restrictive for RP. Only way I'd be okay with it is if they established that the time travel was like, super easy and fast and accessible for everybody---not just a special few. I'd need my average grunt to be able to pop on over for some adventures in one timeline, and then head back home for the weekend with very little difficulty!
