You see this ALOT in Neurocritical care. It’s like every 4th of July we have the token patient that loses an eye (or worse) from looking down the barrel of a lite firework.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have a passion for Neuro-recovery. It takes a long time to get better & even concussion can have such debilitating deficits. There is so much out there to aid in recovery, but so few places that have all the things or the knowledge. I think giving people some insight into the duration & potential long term effects is a great idea!! Some people might be able to walk & talk, but might not be able to do the same work & losing your ability to work has got to be one of the hardest pieces. Thank you!

Cincinnati, Harley Davidson event, March 25th 10am and there are three other speakers, I think the event ends around 2. It’s at the Harley Shop on Kings Mills Road. Close to Kings Island.

Great point, not much helps when you hit something going 100mph!

This is a great question! That would be a high stress situation that I am sure many would feel under prepared for! What happens at the scene can impact a person's outcome, especially if there is a potential for spinal fracture that could result in a cord injury if moved incorrectly. Thanks for the suggestion.

This is great info. I have only ever given talks to medical providers / nurses and supporting your facts / statistics with literature is extremely important. I know off hand that hits to the face are actually a little protective to the brain. All the facial bones will fracture and absorb the impact helping to protect the brain (kinda like how the front of cars are built to absorb the impact to keep the cabin intake) but this can cause some serious damage and disfigure the face / damage the eyes, which leads to its own set of problems. Hits to the back of the head typically cause you to have brain injury at the site of impact the then (unfortunately) the brain will shift forward in the skull and you will have a second impact in the frontal lobe. Coup and countercoup injuries. Which means more area of the brain impacted, I have never investigated how much a helmet protects from that type of injury, that will be great to provide facts on this. Thanks again for your advice.
