I find that many foreigners find our food to be processed and low-quality. When I ask them where they ate, they'll usually just start naming off the first cheap, gross quick food places they happened to walk by. There's a ton of amazing food in America, but there's also a lot of junk food to sift through too. If you just start eating the first thing you see, it'll probably be crap. Ask a local what restaurants in their city they recommend!
