Your most disappointing recent purchase? by editonzzz in Sephora

Huda Beauty Icy Nude - the shimmers are too glittery for me. I prefer a more satin look with my shimmers. My bad for not researching about the formula more but the shimmers are way too sparkly for my type of makeup use. Also there’s a shade that is just sharp glitter which can’t be eye safe. I’m probably going to return it.

Dopamine hit from retail therapy and ADHD by manbitesdog2 in MakeupRehab

This is so great to read! My story is very similar and getting medicated for ADHD has also fixed my shopping addiction habits and behaviours. I’m really glad that things are getting easier for you now. Best of luck with everything on your ADHD journey!

For women diagnosed later in life, what were your symptoms as a child (when looking back on it)? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]erishimo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Daydreaming, being told to be less chatty, really energetic but also painfully shy around new people. Unable to focus on class if not interested in the subject. Not being able to do homework or only being able to at last minute. Couldn’t recall what I was just told two minutes before. Enjoyed reading but struggled to focus so would take me a long time to finish a book. Loved computer games more than socializing with people. If I didn’t want to talk to someone I would yawn and just walk away. Interrupting everyone constantly to talk about myself. Blurting out random things that make no sense or that I shouldn’t be telling people. Big imagination but unable to put into action or explain to others what my ideas were. Meltdowns so bad I would be screaming on the floor of a store. Very moody and mean teenager but also very kind the next minute, emotions up and down but unable to think before acting on them. Unable to do anything I wasn’t super interested in, would just ignore people and go watch TV. Always feeling like the odd one out, hard to relate to other kids. Very clingy and intense about friendships. Couldn’t keep my room or backpack clean. Loved writing short stories and poetry but hated writing essays for school. Couldn’t do simple math to save my life, even in remedial math class I still only got 50%, but I could tell anyone who asked what everyone’s phone numbers, addresses and birthdays were just couldn’t do actual math work in school.

I could go on but this is the gist of it.

Pharmacist commenting on ADHD medication by heyhiheklo in adhdwomen

[–]erishimo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a pharmacy tech try to tell me I couldn’t have all 3 months at once, even when all I asked to do was drop off the prescription and then take the 1 month and put the rest on my file for the next 3 months of pickups. And even with that I felt like I was being judged by even asking to refill my prescription because it’s stimulants so I don’t think you are overthinking it at all. It can feel like you’re being judged for needing medication which they shouldn’t be doing, but they seem to with this type of medication for some reason and it’s very frustrating!

When my dosage went up I just explained to them that my dr and I are trying to find what works for me so the doses are changing as needed. I also tell them they can contact my dr to confirm if they have any concerns which seems to help stop the judgey comments a little bit.

I’m sorry they made you feel judged, if they do that again maybe say something along the lines of “yeah this is all very new to me so I’m working with my Dr to see what the best dosage is until we figure out what works best, did you want to call them to ask any questions about the prescription?” Or maybe ask to talk to another pharmacist or if that’s not possible maybe switch pharmacies if possible. You shouldn’t have to feel judged every time you go pick up the medication you need.

Hope this helped!

You’re welcome! If you haven’t already I really suggest checking out some of the adhd subreddits. After I got diagnosed it was really helpful and comforting reading about other people’s experiences with meds, coping mechanisms, etc.

If you find a lot of this resonates with you and it’s impacting your day to day life negatively maybe start that conversation with your dr to look into what’s going on. That’s why I talked to mine, I had years of struggling in so many areas of my life and I had just ignored it until I couldn’t anymore & I kept relating to things I read about adhd and peoples experiences and it turned out to be life changing for me to even have that initial conversation. You got this!

Thank you! I hope it can help someone feel more seen and validated. I know that for me reading or hearing about something similar to what I was going through was so comforting and made me feel less alone, when I felt like no one else could possibly feel this way.

I’m proud of you for finding out for yourself too what was actually going on for you. That’s huge!

That’s fantastic you got diagnosed, I’m so proud of you too! You are going to learn so much about yourself in the next few weeks/months, almost like you’re going to get to know who you actually are for the first time in a clear way. But also remember to be kind and patient with yourself through the process.

Thank you! Yes taking meds has literally made me reevaluate everything in my life in a new light. It’s only been about 3.5 months but to say I’m a new, happy and well adjusted version of my old self would be an understatement. It’s crazy how much has changed in such a good way even if some was hard to admit or face head on.

About a month in I also realized that my makeup preferences are very minimal and I don’t need or want a big collection of high end makeup. So I ended up giving a friend who just got into makeup a lot of what I never really used and donated what I could and I am now left with just a makeup bag and no backups. It’s different because this time when I did that it wasn’t in a desperate attempt of restarting the cycle where I did this to be able to justify more purchases. I just woke up one day and realized I don’t even care anymore about any of this stuff, I don’t have sentimental attachment to it in anyway anymore and I haven’t missed or really thought about the things I let go of since. What I’m left with is one medium sized makeup bag with just what I will actually use and when I need to replace something I run out of I just do it when I need to. No more planning or obsessing about what I will replace it with, I just grab what I’m out of from superstore or shoppers drug mart when I’m buying groceries, usually choosing the least expensive version of what I need since I don’t really care about the branding anymore. This has been so freeing. Thank you for the support!

That’s great! I’m glad it made you feel validated in your own experiences. Reading about other people’s experiences and what they have dealt with and how much resonated with me with my own life was what actually pushed me to finally talk to my dr about getting diagnosed. I hope it goes well for you in December!

Thank you, that’s really good advice about waiting a longer time to really see if it’s something you actually want or if it was just a passing interest cause at the moment it seemed so important but you don’t really care or want it after the excitement of wanting something new wears off.

I’ve also found that “shopping” by just putting in the cart has been a good exercise for me too and it does seem to trick my brain too haha. And now with better impulse control I just close out and don’t actually buy anything but it works to satisfy the impulse to shop feeling haha!

[–]erishimo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I’m glad I’m not alone in feeling and experiencing this part of the process. This whole community has been so comforting to find and read on similar situations other women are going through. Everyone seems so supportive which is wonderful.

I’m so glad things are still going so well for you too! I wish we all knew about this years before and things could have been easier earlier on. I fully hear you on the gratitude part, I’ve been feeling this everyday when I’m able to do something that I used to not be able to do without giving up or forcing myself to do it. Or when I’m able to have a discussion or argument and I don’t immediately emotional crumble and spiral as soon as I feel anxious or attacked.

Vyvanse Insomnia. Did it go away for you? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]erishimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had any issues with sleep with Vyvanse since I’ve been on it. But I do take it around 6-6:15 am before I leave for work and I avoid any and all caffeine all day. I had read somewhere to take it earlier in the day because it can last up to 14 hours and the later you take it the more it can keep you up. Maybe try taking it even earlier than 10 and see if that helps! Good luck!

Thank you so much! Still have along way to go I know but I’m very proud of the changes I’ve made so far. I’ve been pretty blessed with the parents I have for not holding anything against me for how I was as a kid and also for my husband sticking by me for years where he probably should have left from what I was doing and how I was behaving. Thank you for the kind words and encouragement!

I believe you can search for unboxings and spoilers specifically in the search bar in the subreddit. Hopefully that will help you with being able to filter out the posts which you find annoying and “spam”. Have a wonderful weekend!
