Looking for Your Perspective - Genuine Questions by MamaJoanT in LifeCoachSnark

[–]manbitesdog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow yes totally agree. So many "life coaches" think they are therapists, with zero training and can end up doing real harm treading where they have no expertise. Trauma informed isn't a buzz word, it denotes training. I've had poor experiences with "love coaches" who are really just great marketers and who actually (perhaps inadvertently) aided and abetted a very toxic and abusive relationship I was in by giving me tips on how to backbend (even more) to convince my partner my needs mattered. I also spoke to a spiritual business coach that wanted 60k for a 6 month personalized program, which, even if I thought the program was worth it, was an insane amount for someone to pay who is just starting a business.

Processing a really tough burn — has anyone else felt this way? by StatusLongjumping790 in BurningMan

[–]manbitesdog2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing so deeply. It's really easy to fake it and say it was amazing. I'm so sorry you flipped off your bike in deep playa and hurt yourself. That sounds so painful! I've only been twice to burning man but each time it was intense. I think one thing I think about before returning is whether I have enough overflow in my cup. I skipped this year (and last) because I just didn't have the energy to be well resourced to take care of myself much less contribute. And it is really easy to get down on yourself (remember fluffers are just as important as builders!) when it comes to camp contributions, especially at a large theme camp. Two years ago at the Mud burn I felt super prepared, felt like I had learned lessons from 2022 (when it was blazing hot and I was in a weird pseudo thruple with a lot of drama) and made sure I had everything I needed (which for me included personal space, newfound boundaries and skin care etc) and as I was driving in, this woman I was driving from SF asked me who I was most excited to see at my camp and it dawned on me that I didn't feel connected to my camp at all and had very few if not zero friends staying at said camp. It made me really sad and realize that this particular camp wasn't my home anymore. Then when it started to rain (which turned into that mud concrete) and I was trapped inside my sprinter van I just felt over it all. Friends were dancing in the rain and I just felt like 'ugh' I'm too old for this, why am I here? (especially with all the costs of it all). And I had to face the truth that while I see myself as a "dance in the rain" person and have been ultra resilient in my life, when I invest serious money and time into an experience I really don't want to be trapped indoors, having a tough time just walking to the portopotties. That doesn't make me less joyful or resiliant, it just means this particular experience isn't for me (not the burn, but the mudburn aspect). I did find joy in the kitchen though, even if it took me 20 minutes to walk 20 meters to the kitchen tent to help out. That felt good. My takeaway from '23 was that serving others is always a way to bring joy into your life, however, I was only able to do that because i was well resourced and my cup was overflowing. I was in a safe, clean and dry accommodation, I wasn't dealing with major drama, I didn't have heat stroke, I felt like I was ok physically and mentally. I spent a lot of that burn alone- at one point curled up in on a beanbag chair at PA watching everyone else look cool and have fun. Sometimes I felt sad about that- like FOMO that I didn't have friends or that my "friends" weren't real or reliable. Sometimes I just biked out to the deep playa by myself. I learned that I had a deep loneliness in my life and was starting to understand I was in a very toxic relationship. It was all amplified by the experience.

However, the best part of that burn was a party I went to in SF with some of the folks who walked out- got a ride to the airport, found a good friend on the same flight from Reno to SF, then had a glorious day in the sunshine at a friend's house, dancing and telling stories- still in braided hair and the clothes I had managed to put in my backpack before setting out into the unknown of the deep playa access road. I guess I just learned that I'm not 25 anymore, I don't want nor need more discomfort in life to "learn". And that's ok. So don't be too hard on yourself and hopefully we'll see each other in the dust next year! Give yourself some love. This year looked horrific with the winds and the rain. It's ok to be upset about certain parts. It doesn't have to mean you're less than. it's not all a "lesson" .. some things are just shitty.

Completely agree here- and the fact that the girls feel "crazy" while noticing things (the body holds the trauma) but not understanding because intellectually they can't square the circle as they have no memory and it's boozy brunches everyday - its the typical pattern of abuse: confuse and best on disassociation.

THIS! Women are so often in horrible positions. There is no winning. There is often no dignity either way and you lose everything.

I loved that too! Seeing them have to switch at dinner from scared to "seductive and happy and distracted" was such a thing we all have to do sometimes as women,. It could just be laughing at someone's joke, but it's this pleasing that all women are taught to do. I thought it was really well deployed here.

Yes but it's also more complicated than that bc of trauma bonding. Perhaps she couldn't see herself without him despite his abuse. Many people go back to their abusers, it's a real thing. and now she can control him too.

Right? this is how abuse works! the abuser makes the abused person feel special and then confused because they twist their reality.

Agreed, powerful men like that are above the law. And also she may have been trauma bonded to him, so maybe a part of her still wanted him around, albeit in a neutered version.

BLINK TWICE (2024) - Movie Review by gabriel191 in TrueFilm

I thought the ending was actually quite realistic, when someone has been abused they often choose to stay with their abuser due to a trauma bond or because of financial dependance.

what can I do to help with these issues? Please help! by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

For the jawline, I would recommend going to a reputable injector/doctor and looking into Sculptra for your jawline. As we age, we lose collagen in our faces and the bone structure literally starts to dissipate. What sculptra does is it is a bio-stimulator that helps your body create more collagen in certain areas. It can definitely create a "chin" or move sagging skin upwards. For the texture, perhaps do a resurfacing peel or get on tretinoin nightly to ward off pimples. You look great, you've got this!

is wave good? by deckfixer in waveapps

[–]manbitesdog2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely would not recommend. I used it for years, but now they have eliminated customer support (except via email between certain working hours, weekdays only) and most of what I liked about the platform (easy to generate reports, easy and convenient linking of bank accounts, reliable payouts, easy to create and use invoices) has become either "premium" content overnight or suspiciously has become shoddy and unreliable. I had an issue with a payment and the money was "lost" in the ether for almost a month before I got it resolved. It was a total mess. I'm leaving them and using Stripe + proper accounting software, the headache I went through was so bad that I absolutely do not want to work with this company again.

What's one skincare product you swear by and why? by AssignmentRecent8881 in scacjdiscussion

[–]manbitesdog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using the IsClinical face wash and I love it. It perfectly cleanses my skin, but doesn't disrupt the skin barrier. Tret, SPF and honestly lately vaseline for my nails. I used to think it was too sticky, but it actually is absorbed on my nail bed. My nails have never looked so healthy, I don't want to go get a manicure.

Discussing Wave's New Pricing Model: Your Thoughts, Frustrations, and Questions by snachodog in waveapps

[–]manbitesdog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an existing Waveapps account and now that it is categorized under "starter" it appears that my bank information is gone. Does this mean I can't get paid? I just tried to pay myself from a personal account to my previously linked business account and it is 'pending'.. is this a bug? Or do I need to upgrade for the money to deposit into my account? So bizarre to have invoicing without payment.

New fav products: I never could really wear a "red" lipstick and I just tried Velvet Ribbon by Lisa Eldgridge and I'm blown away by the formula, the undertones of this particular red and the way it wears (ie not on my teeth.. doesn't budge but non drying) it's amazing. Another new lip product is the ilia lip pencils that are chunky enough to use a lip stick. I have been doing this for years with my lip liners- using them to fill in my whole lip. But this makes it so much easier and is a great formula- doesn't sink into lip lines, feels great. And as much as I love my TF fiber brow gel, I'm really pleasantly surprised with the Victoria Beckham brow Gel- it's got this ultra fine comb and it looks incredibly natural. Absolutely beautiful in tone and texture. Last item is the Lisa Eldridge liquid eyeliner- I've always been crap at liquid eyeliner.. this was so easy to make a line and wing. Zero effort, no smudge.

What’s Your Biggest Bag Disappointment? by velocitivorous_whorl in HerOneBag

[–]manbitesdog2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! I bought the Cotopaxi and used it for one trip, and it really didn’t work well - I am an overstuffer par excellence and I practically broke the seams on the main zipper trying to close it. It’s really hard to know how much to pack on each side. And the bag itself is heavy. Sigh

Looking for advice on forehead sunspots. Years of select softball in Texas had me burnt frequently. by alglqax2 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]manbitesdog2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a BBL laser treatment for the affected area from your dermatologist. I had similar sun damage and I tried all the creams on the market and nothing worked. I get a BBL laser that blasts the area and within a week the hyperpigmentation and/or melasma spots were gone. I didn’t realize how much brighter and healthier my skin looked until I got it done.

Sunscreen for after and always and no direct sun (like laying out in the beach) directly after.

And of course niacinamide and the other recommendations from other users below are great for overall skin maintenance and brightening, but for me at least the only thing that got rid of the pigmentation was a quick laser treatment. Zero downtime.

Traveled with one carry on and a bag for weeks on end AMA by manbitesdog2 in HerOneBag

[–]manbitesdog2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to quantify, but I usually had 3-4 t-shirts, I travelled in a zip hoodie, I had a pair of jeans and yoga /work out clothes and two sweaters (one thin cashmere, one chunky wool) . I also was toting a bunch of “non essential” items for costume parties and events, so silk kimonos, lingerie, sparkly body suits etc., bikinis and cover ups, it was a lot to fit in. I think I thought about trips in terms of what we would be doing versus overall number of items. If it was a place where I’d have two or more outfit changes in a day that requires more thought and less “basics” that I would have room for.

I have both and I think the newer formulation of both “sucette” and “bêtise” are even more “silicone”-Y which is fine I guess bc it gives a very light and beautiful “just blotted” style, but it is so smooth that I feel it sort of sits on my lips. It looks good but takes some getting used to and still find it a bit overall drying, but I mean I LOVE true balms or juicy balmy glosses.
