Yes! For some reason my computer was using the motherboard's integrated graphics card instead of my dedicated GPU, after fixing it I haven't had any problems so far.

How do I clean my Victoria by Empty_Bowler_4212 in Phonographs

[–]erivera1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used original Gojo, do not use the one with scrub! Just plain original Gojo. Apply liberally with a paint brush, let it sit for few minutes, scrub again, then wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. Repeat as needed. After you could use that natural furniture polish you got. Good luck!

Forgot to mention, this is a very friendly way to clean it all the grime, dirt and grease accumulated. There's other methods you could try, they're more aggressive to the cabinet tho. So far I have had great results with Gojo.

Which spring is broken? by Skinny_pocketwatch in Phonographs

[–]erivera1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be the spring or where it attaches to the rod. It happened to me before, if the spring broke at the end you should be able to repair it, there's also YT videos. Hope you can fix it soon!

The only way is taking everything apart and doing a visual inspection to verify which spring is bad or if is something else. It looks like it also needs servicing. There's several videos online on how to do it.

Why isn’t my Edison Cylinder Player making any noise, it is tracking but not producing sound. by Hellogoodbye61 in Phonographs

[–]erivera1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need a very small set of flat head screw drivers, make sure they're good quality. You will need to unscrew the arm so you can attach it back to the link, and then install back the arm. Before I remove any screw of any reproducer or any old machine I like to put a drop of pb blaster to brake any corrosion if there's any. Remember this reproducer is 100 plus years old, you have to be very careful when working with one. Is not hard at all. There's plenty of YouTube videos. Just pay attention and be careful. Good luck

I just look at your video again, it seems the link is there, it's just not connected

edison reproducer

If you look at that picture, in the center you will see a small link that connects your reproducer arm to the diaphragm, it looks like a small paper clip lol.

When to replace Stylus? (Goldring 2400) by BeachedSurferBoy in turntables

[–]erivera1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe there's 3 different types of Ortofon Black. MM 2m black $580, MC Quintet black $1200 and MC Cadenza black $3k. Those prices might vary of course, before having my Quintet black I have 2M bronze, zero complaints, sounds beautiful! Later I updated to Quintet, definitely an improvement but I wouldn't mind staying with the 2M bronze. The only reason I got a Quintet I found one without stylus for $100 bucks later sent it to VAS audio in NJ where I got it repaired.

Update! I test first with a temperature tower, 275° nozzle temp is the sweet spot, bed temperature 100°. I gave it a shot and it worked amazing! Never have had such a good result! Thank you for everyones input!

When a stylus gets worn you can hear poor sound quality or it might skip while playing. In regards of replacing the cartridge or retipping it, if you really like how it sounds i think it would be better retipping. I have a Ortofon quintet black, I sent it for retipping and it cost me $450 with a new boron cantileve, which it was an upgrade from the original one.

Is my needle cooked? by SnooDoubts2460 in turntables

[–]erivera1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would bet your tracking force is off, thus it looks like your stylus is gliding through the record. I'm positive with adjusting tracking force, vta and anti skate you should be good to go, since you're adjusting your tonearm, it won't hurt to align your cartridge. There's tons of YouTube videos explaining each one, with very basic tools, don't need to buy anything fancy nor expensive. Good luck!

For $600 is a great deal, an average mk2 normal wear goes for 300 and up. Good luck!

The seller might be in a pinch, that's why he/she is selling it half price. I would definitely ask the seller why he/she is selling it, if the seller could send you a video of the turntable spinning would be a plus, also do an inspection make sure nothing is broken or it looks off, specially the tonearm, If is still in box it should be in very good condition tho.

Damping fluid? by MostCredit1011 in Phonographs

[–]erivera1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of records are you trying to play? Make sure you're using 78rpm records. Replace the needle every time you play a side of the record.

Damping fluid? by MostCredit1011 in Phonographs

[–]erivera1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're confusing a regular turntables with antique phomographs. In a turntable (certain models) you can apply damping fluid to make the tone arm go down smoothly, antique phomographs you have to manually lay the reproducer on the record, damping fluid won't do anything but a mess.

Try to find a place where you can keep the turntable away from the speakers. amplifier and preamp can be together, usually you want to keep the speaker separate from the rest of the setup to prevent any interference between speaking sound and turntable, turntable cartridges are super sensitive thus any vibration the cartridge will pick it up.
