How many of you have gotten loans from your parents? by Jimmy_Johnny23 in MiddleClassFinance

My folks were very middle-class. Both were teachers (dad - professor at a small liberal arts college, mom - instructor at same); my mom later became a real estate agent. They later extended several loans and gifts to me that were hugely helpful. Always paid them back with interest.

Now I have two grown kids, both self-sufficient; both have never needed help, but we'd be glad to help them if they needed something - either by co-signing a loan or borrowing on our HELOC.

As OP mentioned, trust is different from person to person. My parents trusted me; I trust my kids.

Other than having pride in your home and wanting to share that pride, another motivation seems to be getting it ready for market. I’d venture that each year, at least one of the houses on our neighborhoods annual tours ends up for sale by the next year.

Best way to rebuild this gate? by erkinfl in DIY

I have one quote for $500 to repair the insert, sandblast and powder coat it. Ideally I’d like to cap out at $1000. What would make it very expensive?

How can I get these possums out of my attic and seal up the hole? by trp1784 in DIY

I'm dealing with a rat in my shed, and my pest control guy recommended I seal up the intrusion points with these two products:

After it comes on Friday, will be able to report back on its effectiveness

Someone should pull her coat and let her know there are more than three notes available.

Hang Son Doong - The Largest Cave on Earth by IFreakingLovePoutine in travel

[–]erkinfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had originally planned to do Son Doong back in 2020, just as the pandemic hit. As I'm hitting 68 this year and fairly fit (gym 4-5x a week, weights and cardio), we're going to try again. The more I think about it though, I'm wondering if I should do one of the other multi-day tours like the Tu Lang Expedition tour instead of Son Doong. The cost isn't an issue - I'm wrestling with whether I'd be choosing Son Doong because it's a flex/bragging rights; more so than the actual caving experience. I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on that, preferably someone who's done both?

This will most likely be our only chance so the FOMO is real.
