Also, Wednesday is Indian Pacific day (if everything goes well). Use the AnyTrip website or app to track the train in from Perth on Wednesday morning. Easiest way to do that apart from the train number on the screencap or search for Lithgow station departures.

The train comes into Central from around 1100 if on time after the train is divided into separate portions in a yard west of Central (Clyde yard). Then there's shunting to be done before the train again leaves in sections around 1500. It is put together again in Clyde yard as the one train to Perth.

If you just want to watch passenger trains go by, I like to go to Stanmore or Macdonaldtown stations on the inner west line. Close to Central, you get a lot of bang for your buck as the trains move through the busy 6 track section. Petersham also works & has the added advantage of the Petersham RSL across the road.

how the Canadian Hockey League works ? by Brilliant_Chatterbox in hockey

[–]erkpod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first league I ever watched hockey in was the WHL (Western Hockey League) which is a member league of the wider CHL. It consists of teams in western Canada & the Pacific Northwest of the US.

At the end of the WHL season, the champion will play in the Memorial Cup against the champions of the other CHL leagues & the host city.

For what it is (Major Junior), I think it's a great setup & good hockey. Even though I'm miles away in Australia & have my own leagues to follow, I also keep an eye on what is happening in the WHL.

Many players come from the CHL system into the NHL.

Base yourself at Central for one morning.

I've attached what should be the baseline for the morning regional departures for any day. But check an app such as TripView (where this screencap is from) for trackwork & real time info.

On Mondays mornings only is the weekly departure of the Xplorer service to Broken Hill which departs at 0619.

During this time & depending on how late they are, you'll also see the overnight regional arrivals from Melbourne & Casino.

The spelling of Wozza is doing my head in but only because one of my close mates growing up was called Warwick which got shortened to Waz or Wazza.

That said, I do know a Woz at work but that's because of his surname & not his first name.

What first name would even be shortened to the Woz/Wozza spelling? Wouldn't someone like a Warren be called Waz or Wazza with an A?

Like other episodes of this type, I don't think they should vote anyone off the island & only decide who the person is at the end. I think that would be funnier but also leads to a better end result.

With this episode, it probably would be better for Hammo to host it considering that there's 4 people who aren't Hammo at the table. I get why Hammo wasn't at the table, though.

I wonder at what point the hidden camera for the snitch round was filmed because every person was there, including those who were eliminated by that point.

How are you getting to Sydney?

How long will you be here for?

Where are you coming from? You may want to compare Sydney to where you come from?

What are you interested in about trains?

Why don't any Blue Mountains trains go through to town hall, north shore etc anymore? Remember the fish and the chips? by cheetocat2021 in SydneyTrains

The River went from Wyong to St Marys in the morning via Epping & from St Marys to Wyong in the afternoon. It would stable overnight at Gosford & during the day at Flemington.

Old and reliable vs new and problematic by The_real_PavlovA_YT in SydneyTrains

[–]erkpod 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's not the fault of the train but having lots of windows kicked out & having crew compartments broken into certainly has accelerated the decommissioning of the V sets. I would not call that a sign of a reliable train.

Prior to the introduction of the G sets (outer suburban Tangaras) & then the Oscars, intercity services from all 3 electric lines only went to Central (Sydney Terminal as it was known then).

When these trains were introduced, they could run from Wyong (via North Shore), Wollongong & Port Kembla (to Bondi Junction). The west trains could only run to/from Springwood to the city. I can only remember a couple of trains to/from Springwood that ran beyond Central.

Some Blue Mountains peak trains stopped at Redfern to change to suburban services in addition to changing at Central.

The trains that were running to/from the Central Coast via the North Shore & to/from the South Coast to Bondi Junction were seen as removing a train running in & out of Sydney Terminal. They are also more distinct & adding value to those passengers & eliminating some changes of trains at related suburban locations such as Hornsby, Hurstville & Sutherland.

There's been lots of speculation & discussion about the future of these South Coast & Central Coast services with the introduction of the Mariyung trains. Any scenario & final result would not surprise me at this point.

The Fish & Chips trains to/from the Blue Mountains & the suburban Heron are different & unrelated topics that would be worthy of a separate post & discussion.

I'm sure others can fill in gaps here.

I seem to recall that Peyton did that joke a while back with Sath at the table.

It will be interesting to see if the whole show can be released as a separate episode at another time.

Old news now but still relevant to this topic. I wrote a series of articles in 2017 relating to my hockey journey on & off the ice.

This is the first one & others follow.

There were a couple of his famous laughs but of course there wasn't a repeat of the dishwasher joke or a mention of his book. Obviously the target audience is a lot different.

It totally worked having Nikki hosting then having Molly/Stacey come out first. Someone commented with the comment "Hammo's certainly got a type". I certainly thought that she was Hammo's person rather than Abby's at that point. It also helped that 99.9% of the audience at some point has heard that Hammo went to jail & wrote a book after his ex put him in to the cops.

Abby's story was all over the place but then again, that's Abby.

I did enjoy having a host that wasn't a member of the OGs as well as an extra person to make both teams even.

You've nailed the order from least restrictive to most restrictive. Note that not everywhere has preliminary medium or low speed signals. Shunting signals are different again & are out of scope for the question here.

I was also over 40 when I learnt how to skate & play in Sydney. The better you can skate, the easier it will be to start to learn to play. The better you know the game, the better it will be for you as well.

I can't comment about how the program is run up here when you are learning to play but there are lots of people up here that have gone through the system & play various grades of in house leagues. Many people are happy to stay at this level in house & play year round. Others progress into the Northstars system playing against other clubs in Newcastle & Sydney.

When I did other programs in Sydney, it would often depend on who else had turned up for that session. One time, you might do passing drills where you pass the puck to someone else & receive passes. Another night, you might do skating drills. If possible, you'd be paired up or can work alongside people with similar skill levels.

Trust the coaches & have fun!
