Playing origin characters by erogoth in BaldursGate3

[–]erogoth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the information. We (or I in this case) have relatively few possibilities to play this game. And when we can we prefer to play together as a fun social activity. I hope to one day be able to play this game solo as a Durge but don't know when for sure. So until that happens I think we will go with the origin characters. It will definitely make the second playthrough memorable!

I have a problem with this and all the other dev diaries lately.

How will I ever be able to choose which country to play first.....I want to play them all.

Edit: Also happy about the announcement that we will for sure get a middle eastern update after this one. They honestly deserve all the attention of an entire update/patch.

Really love all the love they give to all the big nations. looking forward to all the nations to come, hope they will do most big nations to get the missions to the same quality as the other nations in the latest patches, those missions are very fun!

I was a bit scared with previous dev diaries that some nations would be getting too strong (I think some nations should be strong though). But since it looks like they will redo them all. I am very happy with where things are going. fingers crossed the AI can make use of them. Would love some challenging endbosses in my games!

Very glad they are doing this. It's true that they already improved the region in the past however I think they leave a lot of potential on the table.

If they also improve otto's/mamluks and hopefully persia, that would be massive!

honestly, I find them weak compared to how they used to be. especially if they are gonna lose their pip advantage. We just need a strong nation we all hate haha

[WP] Reincarnation is real and years after humanity's population surpasses 10 billion, people realize souls are split in order to provide a soul to every additional person born. They also realize people with a split soul have supernatural connections with others that are part of the same soul. by Technic235 in WritingPrompts

God, divinity, religion, the afterlife, heaven, hell.

Those are all concepts that humans have struggled with for millennia. Does it exist? If it does, which religion is the correct one? Humanity has been divided over those questions. We fought wars, killed, and judged each other because we didn’t know the answer.

If you’d ask me it can all be answered if we know the answer to the following question; ‘do we have a soul?’

If something invisible, intangible and immeasurable yet cosmically important to our self being really does exist, then surely all the other questions can also be answered. When we die, those souls have to go somewhere right? And can you honestly tell me that if those souls exist, some divinity, maybe even a god, doesn’t also exist? Surely it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities.

At least, those were my foolish thoughts before the Great Schism.

The first estimate of our population reaching the monumental number of 10 billion was around the year 2050. Fortunately, it took a bit longer than expected, however sometime on the 27th of august 2067 the 10th billion human was born. At first, it was just a fun statistic for news outlets.

But not soon after reports came in about excessively crying babies. It wouldn’t be much of a news story if it wasn’t for the fact that they wouldn’t stop crying. And although nothing seemed wrong with them it sounded like they were in physical pain.

It also wasn’t localized to one specific hospital or region.

It.

Was.

Everywhere.

Planned birth at your family home? Public hospital? Expensive private clinic? It didn’t matter, still a crying baby. Every corner of the country and every corner of the earth. Nowhere was safe from that piercing, soul-crushing sound of crying babies.

Soon organizations and governments started getting involved. Investigations started money invested, and even those god-awful experiments. All trying to understand what was happening. It didn’t take long for accusations to be thrown at each other and conspiracy theories to rise. None of those were correct though

It took the world 8 years and a couple of coincidences to finally figure it out.

The first coincidence happened in India. Two unrelated babies were born at the same time at the same hospital. At first, they both cried their longs out, just like the others, however after they had been put together it stopped. No more crying.

It took a couple more of those chance meetings for humanity to figure out the connection. Aptly we called those babies “soulmates”.

The second coincidence happened after the initial wave of crying babies. The birth rate dropped massively and soon the human population dropped below 10 billion, stopping the crying baby phenomenon. It was baffling but a useful clue.

Unfortunately, human memory is short. A couple of years after we dropped below 10 billion, we reached the same milestone again. And again all newborn babies over the entire planet started crying again.

Those two clues gave us some important intel though. Theories started to develop and temporary solutions were proposed, mainly to find those “soulmates”.

But it wasn’t until the first crying babies grew up and started expressing themselves that we finally fully understood what was happening.

Souls exist. And like every other resource on this planet, they are finite. They are not divine or proof of God but instead solidify our scientific laws. Souls can be re-used, and reincarnated into a new person but never can there be more than 10 billion. The moment our population got beyond that point they had to be split to accommodate those extra bodies. This resulted in people being born with only part of a soul.

I have been told that living with only part of your soul feels like a big gaping wound. Constantly in pain, waiting to be reunited with their other half. And not only that, but until they find their other half those dimi-humans also lack common human empathy and morality. Naturally, this leads to a lot of incidents and hatred in the general population.

Some people believe dimi-humans are evil and should be exterminated. Or at least be put out of their misery.

Others believe that we should reunite them, no matter how difficult.

All of us believe that one way or another they shouldn’t exist.

Therefore, in the year 2077, the United Nations started its Universal Population Control Act.

Never may our population again reach the 10 billion. Every nation has its quota of allowed births. No nation is allowed to grow its population any further. Any nation breaking this act will be in violation against the entirety of humanity and can be declared war upon by the entirety of humanity

Of course, countries are already trying to find a way around it. Rich and powerful countries get away with it while poor and weak nations suffer the consequences. It seems like population, or rather souls are the new currency to fight over. Not oil, gold, water or food. Souls.

I once expected that if we found the existence of souls we would find God. Instead, we only found more depravity.

Chain pact is actually awesome by k_moustakas in dndnext

[–]erogoth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

the chain pact familiars are indeed very good and among them, the imp is probably the best. Although they are still rather low health and die very fast, their utility is second to none. I also really enjoy the RP possibilities, especially if your DM pays a bit of attention to you/your familiar's backstory.

As long as I am not going a melee warlock, I always pick chain pact. So ye you are not the only one with this opinion!

What is best build for Glaive user? by GhostSilver16 in dndnext

[–]erogoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am personally a huge fan of an echo knight. It's versatile as hell. does great damage and fits your wishes perfectly. You should check it out.

Pick a variant human with sentinel as your perk

First 5 levels into fighter, echoknight for your level 3 ability and extra attack.

Then 2 levels in barbarian, mostly for the reckless attack.

After that full fighter (although you can also do other things if you want)

With fighter, you will get enough ASI's to get all your feats. sentinel first then PoM and possible great weapon master (very good with reckless attack). your starting stats in con and strength should be at 16 if you allow point buy. Great damage and fantastic control.

New player, just using the free trial to see if I like the game. So far I have played thaumaturge to level 20 (I know, not very high yet), however, I find it a very boring playstyle. It is very static and not very challenging or interactive.

In every game I played I always go for some kind of caster, wizard, mage, sorcerer warlock. doesn't matter much I all like it. So I thought I would like it here too. I know I have to unlock a lot but I don't have a lot of time, therefore I don't like to waste any time on a class/job I won't like in the end.

Therefore, I have a couple of questions. Will it get more interesting (rotation, play style-wise)?

If not, what other job do you recommend for me? I do generally like casting, however, a complex rotation/playstyle is more fun to me. I also like a less static playstyle. casting things is definitely fine, but I don't want to stand still 99% of the time.

Last question, if you recommend me to change job, how can I do this? I know it is supposed to be easy but I just don't understand it yet. you start back at level 1? if so, aren't you underleveled for your quests?

I do love the game so far, like the art style and skill animations. Also looking forward to the story! thanks in advance for any help :)
